Thornburgh Nomination Battle Stokes Senate Divide
Senate Majority Leader Edward Zemprelli says Governor-elect Dick Thornburgh must bargain with Democrats to gain confirmation for his cabinet picks. Democrats hold 15 of 27 seats and must rally to confirm several key posts, with 34 votes needed for two third majority on some boards. Zemprelli cites budget, taxes, transportation, reform and health care as top issues facing the new session. He warns Thornburgh to expect a rough confirmation path and notes ongoing ethics questions surrounding payroll records.
