Officials in New Castle disclaim knowledge of the matter and say there will be no change in conditions this year. The executive committee is called to address the ultimatum and organizing efforts surrounding President Mardle.
United States Steel signals a clash with the Amalgamated association as it seeks to disengage from union labor at New Castle Niles Sharon and Struthers sheet and tinplate mills. Amalgamated leaders meet leaders McArdle and Llewellyn Lewis after an apparent ultimatum with unions told to decide by September 1.
The New Castle Portland Cement company plans a half million dollar plant at Cascade street and Grandview avenue. Mechanical engineers are on site and surveys finished. Construction may take a year and will employ about 450 workers. A bridge over Cascade street must be built to access westward quarries, a request debated by councils for two months before approval at the Monday meeting.
Mary Blaine White, 3 12 years old, daughter of Harry and Margaret White of 2212 West Big Run Street, died Wednesday at 2 30 PM after a brief pneumonia illness. Funeral Friday at 2 PM followed by burial in St. Mary's cemetery.
The Wesley M. E. church held its fourth quarterly conference. Reports show financial and membership gains under Rev. C B Livingstone. John Botham elected lay delegate to the Erie annual conference. Lawrence Dennis named reserve delegate. Trustees and stewards named for the coming year.
Prospect hosts a big Old Home Week with about 1500 in attendance. A 6 to 5 baseball win by Prospect over Butler highlighted Wednesday events in Critchelow's grove lit by piped natural gas. Speakers, singing, and a band filled the park in the evening.
Members of the St Andrew's Episcopal mission choir in the Fifth ward will hold their annual picnic and outing Friday evening at Cascade Park. Supper is at six o'clock and attendees will have reserved seats for the theater that night.

After a ten day shutdown for overhaul and repairs, Carnegie Steel Company’s plant resumes operations in all departments. Several departments began last night, the converting mill opened Thursday morning, and officials report orders on hand to run for many months. The tin mill is expected to resume soon. Automatic stokers were installed during the downtime.
Lafayette Park, jailed on a charge of shooting his wife, declares in a message to The News that he will provide money to his family as needed. He says he told his son he would not let them suffer and has given money when requested. He notes no intent to meet his attorney about funds and mentions a $168 horse sale check not discussed in the letter.
The sum of 5675 53 was secured from Catholic churches of the Pittsburg diocese in Peter s Pence collected in all churches a few weeks since. Lawrence county contributed 79 93. The money will be forwarded to the Vatican.

After a two month pleasant stay in Scott township as guest of his father R W McCracken James S McCracken and family return to New York City. McCracken a well known newspaper man employed on the New York Commercial and formerly with the New Castle papers.
Shenango tin mill workers in the Fifth ward say the plant would resume Monday September 9, but officials deny any announcement and state no definite restart date is known.
Sheriff Waddington will auction on Thursday between 1 and 2 o clock at the courthouse 112 shares of B U Young & Co stock and 286 12 shares of Washington County Coal company stock to satisfy a 24226 debt owed to New Castle Savings and Trust by B A Young. The sale follows an execution by J H Painter as receiver.
Mrs. D. L. Billingsley saved her young child during a runaway on a Wednesday evening at Harlansburg. She shielded the babe with her body as the buggy pitched, suffering severe injuries while the horse roared toward a steep descent. Both were rescued unharmed apart from her bruises, and the horse halted only at its stable in Slippery Rock.
A special committee of Councilmen Warner Rigby and Mc Cready will review Union Telephone’s plan to shift poles from the north to the south side of Leasure avenue. They aim to resolve the conflict after Harry Dunlap secured an injunction against further pole erection on the street. The company allegedly moved poles without council permission.
