A plan to build a 51 mile electric line from New Castle to Franklin through Grove City Harrisville Slippery Rock and other towns aims to connect Western Pennsylvania with low operating costs due to water power and coal. Lawrence County plans three farmers institutes this winter in Huon Valley January 13-14 New Bedford January 1-16 and East Brook January 17-18. A. L. A gasoline explosion at 66 South Beaver Street started a blaze in the J. P. Allen residence shortly after 6 PM. The fire caused $25 in losses, covered by insurance. Earlier, a Sunday night fire on Division Street near South Jefferson burned several telephone poles, suspected from a spark or arson, requiring multiple fire units to extinguish.
Butler county authorities seek an officer to transport Dominick Sangatta to Butler County Jail after his arrest on a cutting scrape. District Attorney Young delayed, noting local officers were busy, until a caller from New Castle demanded the prisoner be moved.

Contractor P. K. Fike and his crew including William Daugherty and S. B. McCleary depart tonight for Etna near Pittsburg to plaster 35 houses. Work is expected to take about two months.
John P. Lutton, a Fifth Ward merchant, plans a suit for false arrest against Police Officer Phil Haid after a Saturday incident at Lutton’s Moravia Street store. Lutton refused to call the patrol when commanded, was arrested and briefly jailed, then released by Mayor Hainer who criticized Haid’s conduct and alleged drinking.
Attorney W. K. Hugus has received 160 replies from New Castle Savings and Trust stockholders approving the plan for paying depositors by September 1. With 199 shareholders still to hear from, a majority is expected to respond soon, and rejection could delay payouts for about a year.
A body was found concealed in the Seeley Houk water in a prior concealment case. Investigators continue to examine the scene for clues and identify the deceased. Local authorities have not released further details pending autopsy results.

Samuel Tonkin and his son Frank of South Sharon were arrested Saturday on extortion charges against Nicola Barbato. They had a hearing and were held for court with bail set at 1500 dollars.
Peter Assyria of Beyroot Syria traveled 33 666 miles in a bid to win entry for himself and his daughter to the United States. After earlier deportation over a supposed defect he pursued a long route via Boston North Adams Rio de Janeiro Colon Victoria Montreal and a final return to the United States completing his journey with his daughter to establish a future home.
A. M. Grainger, captain of the volunteers of America in this city, delivered a carefully prepared address at the Socialist headquarters on Sunday afternoon. The speech offered observations on social issues and the role of volunteers in the community.

James A. Horton and Lake S. McNabb have purchased the Wirsing Hardware Co. store on the diamond and took possession this morning. Horton, a veteran hardware man in New Castle, partners with McNabb, a recent Washington and Jefferson College alumnus. The firm will be named Horton Hardware Company.
McFate and Preston wholesalers of grocers specialties have leased the old postoffice building at the corner of South Mercer and South streets and will move from their Croton avenue location in about thirty days. Mrs C C Hall of North East is the guest of her mother Mrs H B MeCombs of this city.
