The Old Timers reunion at Cascade Park drew 4 000 to 5 000 people from New Castle and surrounding Lawrence County. Foregoing rain fears, participants reconnected with kin and neighbors, sharing greetings, handshakes, and memories from decades past in a festive homecoming atmosphere.
The New Castle Old Timers picnic at Cascade Park drew hundreds from around the area. Notable attendees included Mrs. Lavina Bartum, 87, resident since 1847, and Mrs. Rebecca Black, 83, born in 1824 in Mercer County. Amos Martin, claimed to be 110, and Ephraim Hoover, a longtime blacksmith, were among the crowd. Many attendees traced deep local roots, with families and descendants filling the grounds as residents from nearby towns joined in the celebration. Continued on Fifth Page.
Trouble brews in the city electrical department as Electrician Devlin is accused of granting Union Telephone permission to erect poles without council approval. Bylaw restricts pole placement to council designated sites and injunctions have followed. Devlin must explain at Monday’s council meeting.
District Attorney Young is preparing a long list of indictments against Black Hand men to be presented to the grand jury in the first week of September. Trials may take weeks unless many plead guilty. leaders may face a single charge at trial and, if convicted, may see pleas entered on remaining counts.
While driving along South Mill street Carl Watt of Shadyside was thrown to the ground as a horse he owned became frightened by a passing street car. He held the lines and stopped the animal after being dragged about 60 feet, sustaining a painful bruised shoulder.
The executive committee of the Old Timers thanks editor Bert Wells and the New Castle News the New Castle Herald Mr C C Sankey Mr Geo G Rose Mr Perry Barge Mr Lawrence Dean and the old time drummers and fifers Prof Kirker Mr Ralph Campbell and all committees for helping make the Old Timers picnic a grand success.

Mrs Samuel Parker, well known in the city, lies critically ill at her home in Ellwood City yesterday, with pneumonia and pleurisy, a condition life was reported to be despaired of. She is mother of Miss Birdie Davis of Glen Avenue and is a familiar figure locally.
Cassius Ralph of Grant street has accepted a position with the Osgood Hardware company and will oversee office work. He was previously the bookkeeper for the Ralph McFarland company.

New York stays stocked with meat despite a strike by the Teamsters of America local drivers. Deliveries show delays but no price hikes. The union is not affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters or others in the Federation of Labor. International Teamsters and the butchers’ craft condemn the strike and refuse to work with the strikers.

Twenty five more stockholders of the New Castle Savings and Trust Co. have replied in support of the plan. Attorney W. K. Hugus reports 125 of 269 stockholders have sent letters approving depositor repayment on September 1. Receiver Painter says not all consent is required, though most are expected to comply.
Joseph Trax from the West side returns from Canandaigua New York where he attended a Gen. George A. Custer command reunion. Trax carried a cannon and was the central figure in the parade. The command was reviewed by Mrs. Custer widow of the general.

Judge Porter issued an opinion modifying the preliminary injunction in Nolan versus Pittsburg Harmony Butler and New Castle Street Railway Co. The modification allows railroad construction within the forty foot street limits after Stanton Avenue was ordained and fixed at forty feet.

Mrs J G Emery and her daughter Faith of Lyndal Street left Saturday for Southern Texas to visit relatives. They plan to be away for two or three months.
