Superintendent Marcks releases May figures for Nazareth district showing overall attendance up with 1388 enrolled across junior high and high school, 1408 term to date, 67 percent attendance. Days open total 174. staff listed with hours spent on sanitation, inspections, and disease control. several staff earned several days for clinics and dental visits. American Legion Auxiliary names officers and delegates to Scranton convention.
The Nazareth Woman's Club will hold a Saturday afternoon outing at the summer home of Mrs. Morris Fortuin near Foul Rift on the Delaware. A covered dish luncheon will be served and activities include tennis swimming and cards. Transportation lines up with Mrs. Paul Davisson Hall Court by Saturday noon. The funeral of Mrs Ellen Werkheiser was held Friday from her home with Rev Floyd R Shafer officiating and interment at Forks Cemetery.
The Nagareth Moravian Church held its annual Children’s Day service with two infant baptisms. Philip Simons Kostenbader and David Roth Sickles were baptized by Rev. Paul 5. Meinert. The Beginners and Primary departments presented recitations and songs, led by supervisors and a student lineup including Dolores Rinker and Elizabeth Ziegler.
Rev. Gross travels from Illinois to Wisconsin to baptize his brother's infant Sue Ann Laura Gross. He preaches at Trinity Moravian Church Wisconsin Rapids in the morning Saratoga Moravian Church in the afternoon and Rudolph Moravian Church Sunday evening. He plans to attend the Western District Moravian Christian Endeavor Convention at Lake Chetek June 20 to 26 before returning to Schoeneck.
A group of Intermediate Christian Endeavor Society members from the Moravian Church gathered at Newfoundland on Saturday for a convention. Attendees included Ada Korts Kathryn Schlegel Grace Clauser Helen Rohn Doris Clauser Velma Rohn Elizabeth Marx Ruth Neumeyer Beatrice Schlamp Kathryn Heckman Mr and Mrs W H Bortz Clarence Siegler Robert Huth Robert Rohn Robert Siegfried Samuel Marx the Rev P B Meinert John Schlamp Mrs Elsie Heckman and Mrs Charles Clewell.
Next Sunday at 8 p.m. the Evangelical Church of Nazareth Pennsylvania will hold its Children’s Day services. The program features two primary department exercises, duets by the Koch and Zellner sisters, a four girl class song, a pantomime by the Young People’s Bible Class, a piano solo by Arlene Nace, and a talk by Mrs Richline Harris inviting all to attend.
The Town Council held a regular meeting June 6 1938 at 8 00 p m with President Hagenbuch presiding. Proceedings approved May 3rd and May 16th minutes. Bills approved for payment including veterans, utilities, paving and supplies. Notices from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Department of Highways discussed. actions filed and thanks extended.
The Nagareth Women’s Democratic Club met Tuesday in Shafer’s Hall Belvidere Street Belvidere. President Grace Bar rell reported on the State Convention as a delegate. A by laws amendment committee was appointed including Mrs. Alice Bostenbacher Ellen Schoch Carrie Boerstler Jennie Kubilus and Mabel Petheroff. The club decided to discontinue meetings in the summer.
Ten members of the local Lions Club attended the State Convention in York this week. The group chartered a Kripple bus for transportation, leaving the Y M C A early Tuesday morning and returning yesterday morning.
The Nazareth Rod and Gun Club voted to suspend meetings in July and August at a Y meeting. If meetings are needed, members will be notified. The membership drive continues until September with special arrangements for a peppy drive in the closing week. Members will receive future meeting notices by mail.
Legislation presented to the Grand Lodge at Bedford sessions was discussed by the Lehigh Valley Past Grands Association during a gathering at Beersville Lodge 495. J Eric Linde and Lloyd W Wied er presented the proposals. Morris J Kistler and others attended the Grand Lodge sessions. Dr F A DeMoss of Allentown led the business session. Lady Moore Rebekah served refreshments.
Nazareth High School Alumni Association will host a senior dance and card party on Wednesday evening June 22 in the high school gym. The group has donated 40 for prizes including two 610 cash awards for best boy and girl citizen, one 5 prize for best shorthand transcription, and two prizes 10 and 5 for the oratorical contest winners. Officers this year are Walter Kostenbader president Forrest Bowers vice president Mrs Edward Christman secretary treasurer Hilda Kellow assistant.
The regular monthly meeting of The Republican Council of Women will be held at the M C A next Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. The speaker will be George Laub of Easton. Members are urged to attend. The Ice Cream Festival of St. John's Reformed Sunday School will be held June 17 with the Nazareth Band furnishing the music.
The Nazareth School Board met Monday with all members present. President Bennett reported a May balance of 35 600.47 and June balance of 30 986.01. May tax collections were 1 075.38 and unpaid property tax 2 565.65. Bills of 868.32 were approved. The board approved bids for 1938 39 school supplies and installed an automatic gas shut off valve at the high school. A WPA basement project was adjusted to add a 10 by 14 finishing room. All janitors were re employed on monthly salaries starting July 1. William Silfies was re elected consulting engineer and Adam Shekletski hired to census town children for a 70.00 month stipend. Frantz named principal of Whitfield and overseeing duties to begin 1938 39 term. (Continued on Last Page)
The Phi Gamma Fishing Club will meet at 7:45 PM on Saturday in the MC A. A special musical program is planned. The next meeting will be at Pinebrook near East Stroudsburg on July 2.

A Forks Church service precedes with Rev George S Kleckner and A A Welsh among speakers.
