Harrisburg reports Pennsylvania industries boast stellar safety records says Dr. A M Northrup. Nazareth Penn-Dixie Cement quarry operated 2618 days with no lost time accident as of Jan 1 1933. Sandis Eddy Lehigh Portland quarry logged 2509 days.
About 200 members attended a supper meeting of the Lutheran Brotherhood at St. John's church Social Rooms. Floyd Kauffman chaired, with brief talks by Elwood Anangst Frank Schmidt and Rev H C Snyder. Guest speaker Attorney James Henninger of Allentown spoke on The Lutheran Church and the Ten Commandments. Supper was prepared by the Mothers' Class of the Sunday School led by Mrs James Fetheroll and Mrs Ralph Fry.

A chicken and waffle dinner was served to guests including Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Johnson Mrs. Allen Johnson Esther Mary Hannah Karl Donald Wilbur Truman and the hosts Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson.
County Controller Elwood Bayne told Lions at a bi monthly club session that assessments are biased toward home properties, urging repeal of tax exemptions for colleges and universities to boost county receipts. He called for better hospital support from Easton and Bethlehem and more local government involvement to address budget deficits.
Upper Mount Bethel Township farmers sign for area plan testing of cattle to eradicate tuberculosis in dairy herds. Committees in Upper and Washington Townships organize tests with Dr Henry W Turner coordinating. Sealed bids for transport of veterinarians are requested and due by February 9 for Upper Nazareth and February 10 for Washington Township.
The Farleigh residence at Nazareth Route 3 near Belfast burned at 10 Saturday night while the family was away. Insurance covered part of the estimated 10 000 loss. Fire origin suspected from a defective flue. Mrs. Shimer spotted the blaze and alerted crews from Tatamy and Easton. Stockertown could not respond due to a damaged engine.
The Elizabeth File Rebekah lodge met Monday in Odd Fellow Hall with Carrie Hagenbuch presiding. A rehearsal for a February 16 East district school of instruction was held. Readings, solos by Joseph Schlegel, Lena Hagenbuch, Bertha Reph and others, plus refreshments by the serving committee.
Twenty five new pupils were admitted to the town school system at the opening semester. Eight joined the Whitfield building and seventeen joined the Fairview building. Names include Doris Walters Pauline Kramer Jean Searfass Corinne Ott Jean Wunderly Violet Marquardt Ruby Hough Hunter Fry and others.
Jacob Henry Newhart prominent Stockertown merchant former chief burgess and school director died at his home aged 58 after a relapse following a grip. He born April 26 1879 at Saylorsburg was married to Mary Serfass in 1898 and survived by his wife, parents, two children Russell and Beatrice, and sister. Funeral services were held at his home and he was interred at Forks Cemetery.
The Rotary Club of the YM C A heard Rev. F R Shafer speak on Technocracy with William Silfies presiding. Guests included William Seibert and new members Charles Shimer and John Michael. Vernon Eilenberger visited Bangor with the Smiths.
The Glee Club of Junior High School presents a two act operetta Paints and Patches next Wednesday evening February 15 at 8 in the High School Auditorium. The plot follows an art class with missing ring and gold piece involving Teng Selah Teen Neen and Miss Perriwinkle with arrests and eventual resolution. The cast includes Teng Selah Teen Susan Rastus and Miss Perriwinkle with Miss Weisley directing and the High School Orchestra supplying music.
The piece urges citizens to lift morale by personal effort and courage and to support domestic products. It argues that widespread optimistic action by millions would lift the country from gloom and trigger broad, untold benefits through buying at home and buying American.
The P O of A Camp 315 held a Friday meeting presided by Grace Pike with Hazel Itterly leading devotionals. Officers were installed by Pen Argyl volunteers including Lillie Chapman and Katie Weaver, led by Carrie Holland for president and Emma Johnson as assistant conductor, with Mary Abe Hazel Gegua as social secretary and Mam Edelman as orator. The camp plans a fourth anniversary with a 7 p m covered dish supper and refreshments by the committee.
The Nettopen camp fire girls met Tuesday evening in the church social rooms with 14 members present. They decided to send flowers to Lorraine Heyer who is homebound with scarlet fever. A new honor head committee was appointed: Josephine Heintvelman Anna Boerstler and Elsie Daniels.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Evangelical church will hold a bake sale at Seyfried's Meat Market this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Home baked bread pies and cakes will be offered for sale.
On Saturday afternoon about 3 30 two men Harry and Charles Happel died after their car collided with a southbound Edelman vehicle near Allentown airport. Mrs Edelman died later. others were injured as investigators cited ice on the highway.
Harold V. Knecht Post 415 Ameri can Legion met at the Y M C A with Commander Stewart Eyer presiding. Plans include a motorcade to Coatesville Veterans Hospital on July 23 and an Allentown radio program March 1. The post backed closing movies to youths under 16 during the scarlet fever scare until health officials rule. Copies were sent to Town council Lions Rotarians and the Chamber of Commerce. FP. M. Butz named commander of The Sons of The Legion in the thirtieth district.
Mrs. Anna Wherz 34 of Nazareth suffered burns when her husband and another man allegedly intoxicated tossed lit matches onto her bed. She woke to flames, escaped with burns, was treated locally and sent to Easton Hospital. The incident followed a party his wife says he hosted with flowing liquor. Her oldest daughter alerted others as the fire spread. She is mother to six.
Keystone Automobile Club president J on, Works, opposes Grover C. Talbot's push to divert motor fund money from highways to unemployment relief. He argues such a move harms employment in road work, breaches trust, and raises taxes on motorists while keeping funds tied to highway purposes.
