Myrtle Point merchants under the Chamber of Commerce sponsor a Stop and Shop program giving Southern Coos county residents a chance to win Stop and Shop dollars. To enter, visit a participating store and register your name. one entry covers all future drawings every two weeks. The first draw is Saturday October 15 at 2 p.m. Winners must be present. otherwise the prize rolls to the next drawing and increases by a dollar every two weeks. Week end bargains accompany the campaign. certificates come in $5 $10 and $30 denominations and can be used as currency at participating stores.

Two Die When Auto Crashes Through Bridge
Two people died when a car traveling at high speed crashed through the guard rail on the North Fork bridge on Highway 42. Driver Glen Eddie Rogers of North Bend and passenger Darlene Jane Hemple of North Coos River perished as the vehicle plunged 30 feet to the river bank after tearing out 75 feet of railing and 13 guard posts. Hemple, 20, a cafe waitress in Coos Bay, is survived by two sons and family members. The bodies were taken to local funeral homes as services were pending.
