Myrtle Point High School football beat Cottage Grove 27 to 13 in a hard fought non league game. Rich Armstrong returned a kickoff 90 yards, Jim Thomas added the extra point, and Dick Gassman scored to put the Bobcats ahead at halftime. Cottage Grove led early on a 12 yard run by Jim Easley, but Myrtle Point pulled away in the third quarter with two more scores. The contest marked the start of district play with Pacific Pirates awaiting.

Peck Lakey Ends His Life In Early Monday Tragedy
Raymond Earl Peck Lakey, known as Peck Lakey, died by rifle self harm early Monday. He is survived by his wife, one daughter Mrs. Darrell St.Bt. Louise, Myrtle Point, one son M. P., four sisters including Mrs. Earl Spiner of Coos Bay and Mrs. Bertha Centers of Ten Mile, Mrs. Garnet Morris of Arcata, Cal., three brothers Melvin Lakey of Springfield Elvin Lakey of Oceanside Cal. and Marion Lakey of Langlois, and two grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at Schroeder Funeral Home Mortie Point.
