State Highway Department announces plans to widen Highway 42 through Myrtle Point from Ash Street for about 7000 feet to 48 feet. From there to Powers Junction the road will be 24 feet wide with 8 foot shoulders. Public hearing available via Myrtle Point City Council by October 13.
A drivers license examiner will be on duty in Myrtle Point at city hall on Wednesday October 4 1961 from 9 00 am to 4 00 pm.
Due to the opening of the 1961 deer season on September 30 the third round of the Coquille Valley Golf and Country club fall handicap is postponed one week. Deer-hunting golfers have until October 8 to turn in scores. The fourth round is set for October 15 with semi finals the week of October 22 and finals the week of October 29.
Twenty four women compete in the annual handicap tournament with results led by Mrs Vern Estelle defeating Mrs Cushing 5-4. Other matches include Mrs Bert Gould over Mrs Chiff Belanger 3-2 and Mrs Jake Otter beating Mrs Ben Nichols 6-4. Byes awarded to several players for the next round.
Elgin Heimer of Myrtle Point and his sister reconnected after nearly fifty years. Funeral services were held at Schroeter Brothers Chapel with interment at Norwayton Cemetery.
