A Portland reader sends a 30 year overdue money order to Henry A. Schroeder & Sons as proof of honesty. The letter comments on long past bills and praises politicians of calibre, calling for reform and a return to integrity.
Mr and Mrs Dean Caudle of Coquille have purchased the Norway store service station and seven cottages from Fred Schmidt for about 80 000 dollars. Schmidt leaves for Los Angeles to make his home as Caudles take over last Thursday. The Caudles also run Bill's Place in Coquille and a dairy farm. Peggy Dayton plans to return to Eugene for her studies at the University of Oregon, while Donna Clarno begins work in the Heeren Linn Insurance Agency replacing Dayton.

Grady Johnson remains missing with foul play discredited by authorities. He was last seen Monday near Coos Bay leaving his car by the Prudential Insurance Co building. Investigators from Myrtle Point, Coos Bay, Sheriff Strawn, and state police have found no evidence of foul play.
The Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club has been sold by Mr and Mrs Buck Elliott to Mr and Mrs Olin D Weems of Spray Oregon. The deal includes a 650 acre Spray ranch as part of the consideration and plans call for extensive improvements including a complete new water system and a new clubhouse. The club house will close two weeks for remodeling while the course remains open.
Portland Sept 23 State Treasurer Sig Unander urged the legislature to return money to taxpayers and then meet only to reduce income tax rates. He noted a growing surplus from 9.6 million to about 20 million and said funds could be used to lower rates or fund bond redemption to reduce interest and preserve credit. He warned against broad refunds, favoring rate reductions and prudent use of the surplus.
Local Jaycees led by President Bill Roush and directors Don Troxall and Bob Cline with Hal Vrooman and Ray Priest returned from Redmond Oregon where they represented their chapter at the State JC board of directors meeting. They attended 15 forums on Civic Betterment and Youth Welfare projects to be undertaken later with state-wide participation. The group praised Redmond hospitality and enjoyed the meeting plus the evening banquet and social.
Bill Long of Myrtle Point is listed as a standout center in Willamette University 1957 football facts. The senior All-Conference selection from 1956 is described as heavier and a key mainstay of the line likely to excel as a linebacker this fall. Willamette boasts 12 All-Conference championships since 1926.

The courses cover Constitution history and government to prepare for the U S Immigration Department test scheduled for late November. Governor Holmes is expected to postpone the deer hunting season set to open Sept. 28 due to hot dry weather and widespread forest fires. The decision, based on weather conditions, would delay the season for an indefinite period according to reports.
Governor Robert Holmes appoints Elton Schroeder of Henry A Schroeder & Sons to the all state Oregon Centennial committee. The centennial celebration is set for 1959 at the PI pavilion in Portland.
Gov. Holmes proclaimed Sunday September 20 as American Gold Star Mothers Day to honor Oregon mothers who have lost sons and daughters in defense of the nation. He urged observances statewide and public expressions of love and reverence for these mothers.
