Coos County Farm Bureau will hold its annual potluck dinner and officer election at the County House in Myrtle Point on October 12. President Robert Geines announced the date and time during the regular meeting. Mr and Mrs P F Bartlett and Mr and Mrs Enit Peterson were named co chairs for the event at Myrtle Creek school. The bureau will furnish baked ham coffee cream and sugar. members and friends are invited with each guest asked to bring their own table service.
Mr and Mrs Joe Mast of Myrtle Point celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their daughter Mrs Don Gilkison home on 204 Apple Street last Tuesday afternoon September 10 They were married in Mabel North Carolina on September 10 1887 They moved to Coos County in 1905 They have 12 children 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren More than 150 friends visited the Gilkison home to offer congratulations and the couple expressed they would marry again today if given the chance

The Lions Club of Anglers' Cafe area announced will open the community skating rink at the Community building Sundays 2 to 4 pm starting the first Sunday in October. The board also voted to finance filming of at least one football game for school assemblies and discuss kitchen completion at the building. President Downing named committees on health welfare athletics citizenship ladies' night New Year's party civic improvement education publicity and the boys and girls building committee with members named.
Mr and Mrs Ray Harris Jr and Robbie attended the Brookings wedding of Allen Smith and Shirley Bowlin. Mrs Signe Dayton returned home from Mast hospital after surgery. Dr and Mrs Donald Smith of Portland visited Mr and Mrs W A Roberts and Penny Te. Smiths will leave October 6 for a few years in Africa.
Mr and Mrs Jack Anderson and their son John wrap up a summer stay with Mrs Laura Lee Guy and depart Friday to Corvallis where Mr Anderson resumes studies at Oregon State College. Henry Schroeder couple become great grandparents September 15 as granddaughter Diana Schroeder Amling gives birth to a boy in Mountain View California, child of Elbert Schroeders and Mrs Ernest Amling.
Oregon 4-H Saddle Clubs debut at the State Fair with 1340 enrollees statewide. Myrtle Point leads Coos county with 22 members. Orvus Miller and Dean Van Leuvan aided. Riders earned Showmanship and Horsemanship ribbons amid 25–30 horses per class.
Four Roseburg youths with names withheld due to age entered pleas of guilty to hub cap thefts after a Myrtle Point incident. They admitted stealing car hub caps and other items, were fined $29.50 each, and released to their parents, per Police Chief Bill Tankersley.
Ron Bailey, Pacific Northwest district manager for the United States Chamber of Commerce, will be guest speaker at the Coos County Chamber of Commerce Forum luncheon. The event is Thursday at noon September 26 at the Tioga hotel and the public is invited.

He noted a 1.6 mill levy reduction and a district valuation rise from 6.99 to 7.37 million dollars. He invited the group to tour the high school cafeteria for insight into student lunches.
Mrs. Ann Roush reports nearly 200 prize winners from the Coos county fair have not claimed their awards. Prizes are available at Roush's Service Station and claimants are urged to retrieve them to ease bookkeeping.

He attended as the only scout from Myrtle Point, with 55,000 scouts encamped and 30,000 at a church service. He described visits to Washington, New York, Chicago, Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery and Salt Lake City, plus San Francisco and other western sights, interwoven with humor.
City official Elden Brodie proclaims September 22 to September 28, 1957 as National Business Women's Week. The observance honors women in business and the professions nationwide under the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs.
