An individual identified as HL Bosker of Lebetide was investigated in June. though in poor health and needing assistance, he is not a legal resident of Coos county and relief was denied. Mrs High of Lee now receives an old age allowance of six monthly payments.
A blaze started near the Melvin Moo Service Station at Bridge and swept through the area causing about $10,000 in losses. Firefighters from Myrtle Point, Marshfield, North Bend, and Camp Bradford aided in containment as Moe Service Station and surrounding structures burned, with partial salvaging of other buildings.
The estate of May Finley died Sept 7 is admitted to probate with L. A. Finley of Marshfield named administrator Joe Kohler. Felix Kester and Archer Cortez serve as appraisers. The estate lists about 3000 dollars in realty and 900 dollars in personal property. Heirship names the widow five daughters and others. Also noted is the $400 estate of Rufus B Mason who died Nov 26, 1931.
Dr and Mrs Pred Du Rose of Medical Lake Washington arrived at the AHO Bender home in Norway last Thursday night for a short visit They also visited Mrs Du Rose's other, E L Bender of Myrtle Point Mire Du Rose was formerly Miss Nolda Bender and grew to womanhood In Myrtle Point on the trip the Du Roses visited at the George Caldwell home in Halfway and spent a day at the Pendleton Round-Up They left Saturday morning for home expecting a visit in Portland and other northern points en route
The School Board will complete the Junior High project independently after delays due to labor shortages from SERA. Workmen began Tuesday cleaning the premises tarring the roof sawing gravel and painting window frames as plans are made to move four upper grades into the building over the weekend.
The old fiddlers contest sponsored by the Bandon Townsend club drew entrants including Jo M Barker A J Radabaugh J W Beth Herma Nelson Sam Dietz Bert Myers Robert Harrison and Mr and Mrs A H Bender. Bert Myers won third place while Robert Harrison was barred after his three number set due to age limits as explained by the contest official.
Roseburg couple Mr and Mrs C J Thornquist returned to San Francisco Tuesday after a four week visit with Mrs Thornquist’s sister Mrs Austin Dodge. Various locals noted hunting trips, vacations, and visitors in a bustling community update.
The Coquille Red Devils travel to face Myrtle Point in the first Coos county league game. Myrtle Point curtails players by injuries from practice, may rest several stars, while hoping to defend the county title with a large home crowd expected. Season tickets and all-year passes sold. single admission 35 cents, children 20 cents.
The Myrtle Point Townsend club presents a minstrel show next Thursday at 8 pm in Myrtle Point High School auditorium. Blackface performers from the Dillard Townsend club Aunt Dinah will perform with song and dance for two hours. A nominal admission funds the Townsend Plan in the area.
The Woman's Club will hold its first meeting of the year next Monday September 30 at City Hall. The business session starts at 2 30 PM. Members and prospective members are invited as officers seek to complete the membership roll. A program on The Home features Mrs E C Barker, a reading by Mrs LA laFlamme, poems by Mrs Fred Hallister, and music led by Mrs Chas Wouldridge and Mrs W A Couden, followed by a social.
Clinard Mast narrowly escaped serious injury at the A M Christensen ranch in West Norway when a pump handle flew off while he cranked an engine. The impact struck his mouth knocking out three upper front teeth and bruising his lips.
Friday closing through KEC Roberts real estate sees Claude Randleman trade Myrtle Point property for near Cooper bridge land previously owned by Henry Miller. Randleman gains the Alvin Huntey farm, while Miller now owns a residence on Seventh Street between Cedar and Harris, currently occupied by Hurry Christy.
During the first week, Southmayd purchased the Frank Southmayd ranch adjoining Joe McCaslin’s parcel leased by Lobdell. The deal was closed through the E C Roberts real estate office. Southmayd now owns and occupies the ranch.
The Octagon club postponed its last regular meeting to Wednesday at Mrs. Chas Wooldridge’s home because Mrs. E C Barker was out of town. Mrs. Wooldridge gave an engaging Mozart biography. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Barber’s home.
Word from Marshfield recruiting station confirms Broadbent youth Geen Robbins, son of Mrs. Minalenehie Broadbent and grandson Lreuer of Myrtle Point, has joined the navy. The increased quota offers more young men a path to naval service with Coos County stations in Marshfield City Hall.
4 H club members were honored at Coos County Fair with numerous awards across cattle poultry and livestock divisions. Winners include Frank Trigg Norgey and Sidney Cadman Langlois in juniors and seniors across calves yearlings and producing dow classes, with multiple firsts and seconds noted in Jerseys Ayrshire and Barrow categories.
Tuesday accident on Catching Creek road left one car demolished and the other rolled over an embankment. Driver Wm Davis a Coquille cattle dealer and Alvin E Engblom, now of Myrtle Point, suffered injuries including a cut head and a fractured hand.
Workers prepare the Volkmar Hardware building for winter by applying a fresh coat of paint to its exterior. The project focuses on protecting siding and improving curb appeal ahead of colder weather.
Frank Sinko Jr left his Arago home Monday evening for a hunting trek and failed to return. A neighbor reported him missing and an intensive search led to his arrest on an immorality charge filed since his disappearance. He remains in the county jail awaiting a hearing.
Fairview saw history in the making as two agricultural planes landed amid burned and logged land near Cari Alley. The seed is poured into a tank and evenly spread by the planes. the operation occurred on an enlarged field once bordered by the Cave Tosten and F H Bealer ranches.
Eugene Adams driving over Catching Creek Mountain Sunday found the house and barn on the J A Armfield place burned. The Armfield home and barn burned two years ago and a shack and barn were built afterward, both destroyed this time. The Armfields now reside in Myrtle Point, staying with A C Chase’s house.
Gail Bunch of Dora brought home his bride Miss Mary Reynolds of Portland after a Sept 18 ceremony at the bride’s home conducted by Rev G H Crawford. The groom is son of Mr and Mrs O G Bunch of Dora and a Myrtle Point high school graduate class of 1931. They will reside on the Bunch ranch at Dora.
Dow fatally shot a large black bear at the home of Garrett Menning in Fairview Az as the animal fled from an orchard. It is the first reported bear killed this season.
The Wagner grove at Broadbent hosted a Sunday family reunion for relatives of Uncle Cass Hermann. A basket dinner was served at noon with attendees from Roseburg Coquille Myrtle Point Norway Charleston and additional relatives including Levi Bunch and Eddie Bryant.
At Sunday meeting Dr. O. H. Clarke was named delegate to the Townsend Plan national convention in Chicago. Elder A A Baker is alternate if funds allow. N E Bond gave a talk and a violin number was performed by Herman Nelson. Authorities consider pay of authorizy. Perritt Huntington and K. R. Cellers will address the club this Sunday September 28 urging attendance and support for the program.
Mrs. Harold Watzling endured a painful accident when a needle left in a dress was driven into her left hand while washing out clots. The needle pierced to the bone at the base of the thumb, causing severe injury and medical concern.
Promoter Tex Salkeld presents a two feature boxing card in Coos Bay Friday night headlined by Mike Stangovich of Marshfield vs Midnight Bell of Dallas in an eight round middle bout. North Bend’s Jack Rainwater faces Montana welterweight Ray Cote in an eight round welterweight clash. The program also includes Ray Morgan vs Mickey McCafferty in a six round Irish championship bout and Johnny Bergiel meeting Rollie Westerman with strong local support. The winner between Rainwater and Cote earns a shot at the top bout on a future card.
Cote at the Cote Y Minnick of Los Angeles and Elele Minnick met J. C. Wala of Seattle and Agnes Beaulieu of Coeur d Alene Idaho to obtain a marriage license for Walter Henry Pettit and May Fon Marshfield.
Lee Ray of Myrtle Point delivered the principal address at the Dillard Townsend picnic held in the Claytem grove near the Dillard bottoms. Large crowds from Roseburg and Camas Valley attended. Mrs. Chas. Crouch and Mrs. Perry of Camas performed the Beck Seat Driver sketch. Mrs. L. B. Streag of London sang a well received vocal number.
A W C T U meeting will feature a brief program followed by quilting three quilts for the children at the farm home in Parva. The event highlights charitable work by local ladies.
Mrs. Lawrence Mullen visited Mrs. Clarence Strong in Coquille. Mr. and Mrs. E. Baker spent Sunday in Port Orford with their son LeRoy and family. Mrs. Jack Perry of Powers called on Mrs. L. E. Bothwell. LeRoy Baker and family visited A. B. Baker in Port Orford. Ben Buess and children spent last weekend in Bandon. Mr. and Mrs. Bunch visited the Schroeder home. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Chase attended the funeral of J. O. Holl in Eugene. Miss Margaret Chase will study for a master’s at the University of Oregon. Mrs. G. L. McKay and Mrs. Tucker visited Mrs. Olsen on Gravelford road. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman recently bought the J. H. Baer ranch and moved in May. Mrs. Olsen visited them. Mrs. Parrish was a Monday caller at the Lusk home. Vera Mann and daughter Doris dined with Marlin Evans. Elen and Burr Monrad left for college. Elen to OSU for pharmacy or pre-med, Burr to a university. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. A. Heubner moved to Coquille. Silas Pryirie Cement Friday.
