Portland businessman to speak at UGN kickoff

Portland merchant Robert Hazen will address the Coos County United Good Neighbors kickoff dinner in Coos Bay on Sept 26 at 7 p m The event includes viewing AGN displays and music by the Marshfield Serenettes Hazen heads the Tri County UGN advanced gifts effort and is a notable civic leader with roles in the Greater Portland Convention Assn and Portland Chamber of Commerce.

Highway 42 set for Tuesday in regional hearing

Coos Bay residents plan to attend a highway commission hearing on Tuesday September 30 to seek Ocean Blvd improvements. Greyhound announces a new agency with Jim's Union Service Station in Myrtle Point becoming the Greyhound agent. The effective date is September 29.

Scheel Board Considers Power Steering for Bus Drivers

School District 41 women bus drivers asked for a power steering meeting at the September 22 board meeting. The board asked Superintendent Joe Stewart to study the cost of installation. Stewart reported on an Oregon State School Board Association consultation held September 18. The panel discussed changing hospital surgical insurance carriers, but the board kept the current program. The Broad Bent Church request for school release time for church education was approved.

The Bobcat Booster Club of Myrtle Point High School will meet after the South Umpqua football game on September 26. Coach Don Fisher will give a short talk and the Newport game film will be shown. All interested in Myrtle Point High School are urged to attend.

Residents approved formation of the Norway Water Board Study Group to map water district boundary lines at a Monday night meeting at the Coquille Valley Elks Club. Mrs Pete Peterson chaired the adjourned discussion as officials planned an investigation into the district layout.

BPA head to speak at Coos-Carry Electric Co-op meeting

H.R. Richmond administrator of the Bonneville Power Administration is planned as the featured speaker at the 31st annual Coos Car ry Electric Cooperative meeting. Weed Named Sales Manager At KW Everett Station

Robert Weed was named sales manager for radio station KW in Everett after five years on the KW staff. He studied marketing at Oregon State University and the University of Washington and began in broadcasting as an announcer engineer at KCRE Crescent City California. He later worked in programming and sales at KGAL Letenon Oregon and served as general manager of KT Pendleton Oregon. He is currently vice president at tea Washington Pilote Anencse.
