Chief Merlyn Hathaway and Charles Hannah of the Myrtle Beach Police Dept earned graduate certificates from the Americas Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons after completing the fifth annual Advanced Practical Course in Portland. Mayor Terry D. Schrunk chaired the physicians and public safety committee. Hathaway praised the cate diac heart massage emphasis and the 14 lecture hours of training.
Acting Mayor Jim Howe convened the Myrtle Point City Council Monday night to discuss a state court interpretation forcing unbudgeted legal expenses for all cases. The city faces added costs for public counsel and possible token levies on vending machines while awaiting county funds and a single city attorney serving as prosecutor. Ordinances 873 and related rules grant immediate authority for vehicles not aligning with original manufacturer use.
Hathaway praised a half day of lectures and visual aids followed by hands on practice in six man groups led by a doctor. Sessions ran from morning until nine at night and turned dry topics into engaging instruction.
The city schedules the second and fourth Tuesdays each month for meetings with co chairmen Craig Chase and Wilson Creek promising punctual starts. Residents note a tree on A Street in front of the Price home decorates annually for 36 years. Ordinance 872 expands junking rules to curb safety hazards, unsightliness and pests from abandoned cars, with emergency status making the ordinance effective upon council adoption and mayoral approval.
