Myrtle Point Lions Clean Up Highway Right of Way
Myrtle Point Lions Club organized a state wide litter cleanup on Sunday September 28 with eight members and three pickups. Volunteers patrolled from Bridge Junction to Hollman Wayside Powers Junction collecting beer and pop cans. Participants included Ross Pinkley Roger Whetham Joe Martinka John DeNarhide Leo Schmit Clay Caffey and Ray Henshaw. A state truck driven by Larry Killan aided the effort.

Deer season opens with safety push by Oregon officials
Coquille Valley Elks will place hide collection barrels next week in Myrtle Point at the Union Of Bulk Plant on Roseburg Road Joe's Chevron and Roush's Auto Parts. Hides go to Veterans Hospital to aid sale items. State game director John McKean urged hunters to handle firearms carefully as big game upland game bird and waterfowl seasons begin. He noted 11 nonfatal hunting accidents this year, eight involving youths, mostly from careless handling. Juveniles under 18 need a hunter safety certificate to hunt away from home. those under 14 must be accompanied by adults and those under 12 may not hunt big game.

Banquet Honors Myrtle Point Delegates to Beaver State Programs
The Myrtle Point High School delegates to Beaver State programs were honored at a summer banquet held at the Colony Restaurant on September 24. Six boys and two girls were sponsored by the local community to attend the American Legion programs at Willamette University and Oregon State University. The students learned about government by forming a model state with city officials. A memorial service and awards capped the weeklong activities on Saturday evening.

District drug clinic flyers invite community on Friday
A clinic on drug abuse will be held Friday, October 10 at the Myrtle Crest Gym from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. North Bend Police Chief Tony Zarbano will speak and a marijuana film will be shown. All teachers in Coos County and parents are urged to attend, with a coffee hour break mid morning.
