Richard A. Severson, ex Multnomah Bank Portland, becomes operations officer at Myrtle Point Security Bank succeeding Mel Zumwalt. Zumwalt to succeed Ralph Kring as assistant cashier, Kring to retire December 31. Severson, married to Marie with two children, recently resettled at 421 A Street Myrtle Point.
Caquille Valley Golf & Country Club members travel to Bandon this Sunday for a mixed partner event with the Bandon club. Ten am tee off opens the match, a rematch after the locals defeated the Ban donites recently. Ladies seeking partners urged to join, as many bachelors are eager to team up. The fall handicap qualifying is currently underway at home.
Miss Lillian Farley announces elections in Coos County districts on October 21 from 2 to 8 pm. Voters in districts 20 Broadbent No 3 Arago No 32 Dora No 41 Myrtle Point No 47 Etaska No 65 Sitkum No 77C Bridge and Union High No 2 Myrtle Point will decide on consolidation under a 1957 state law. District 31 Powers is already consolidated and not voting.
The Myrtle Point city council unanimously named Clarence M Ralph senior patrolman as police chief to replace Bill Tankersley who resigned to join Coos County Juvenile Department. The appointment takes effect October 15 and followed a police committee recommendation.
Dr J H Gardner formerly of Ashland has joined the Mast Hospital staff as of September 1. A University of Iowa graduate, he did his internship at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene and comes highly recommended. He and his wife have moved to 315 Ash Street with their year old daughter. His hobby is fishing in a locale called by some the fishing garden spot of the world.
Henry A Schroeder & Sons have leased the Seaman building, formerly Gray Furniture Store, and will open a complete stock of used merchandise including appliances and furniture. Elton Schroeder, manager, cites rising demand and inflow from Gold Beach, Bandon and Powers, with plans for an upholstery shop in connection.
The Red Cross bloodmobile will be at Myrtle Point Crest gym next Thursday from 4 to 8 PM to collect blood. In April the town fell short of the quota of 65 pints, and organizers hope the extended hours will boost donations. Call 1733 during the event if you plan to donate.
Henry Schroeder chairman of the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce Myrtle Tree committee received a letter from Edn L. Boatright manager of the Centennial Garden of Tomorrow requesting the myrtle tree moved from Myrtle Point to the Centennial be permanently planted on the state capitol grounds at Salem. The letter dated September 10 1950 is from Boatright to Schroeder.
