The new Bridge community church will be dedicated this Sunday at 2:30 p m. Rev Sam Bellanti of Greenacres will deliver the dedicatory message. Former Bridge pastors Rev Arnold Dalke now at Elk River Idaho and Rev Neil Fisher current Bridge pastor will be honored guests. Public invited.
The Coos County 4-H horse judging team returned from the Salem State Fair with a blue ribbon. Members Celia Caughell Myrtle Point Verlene Haga Bandon and Richard McCue Myrtle Point represented Coos County and achieved fifth place individually in the state standings.
Mrs Robert Belloni, superintendent, announces that St Marks Episcopal Church will resume classes on Sunday September 13 after summer vacation. Classes begin each Sunday morning at 9 o clock.
Mr and Mrs Bill Latham of Chug Water Wyoming visited last week with Mr and Mrs Herold Bargett. The two couples spent the weekend at their cabins in the Siskiyous.
Mrs H G Rosslow departed Wednesday of last week to visit relatives in Spokane Washington.
About 100 residents attended a public hearing at the Myrtle Point high school cafeteria on the Oregon School Consolidation Law. Dennis Patch explained the plan from the State Board of Education while Bob Powrie and Lathan Farley answered questions. two plans would place multiple districts under one administration if approved.
S F Stevens and his wife returned from a nine week trip through the United States and Canada. They vacationed at Wallowa Lake Hells Canyon Glacier National Park Banff Lake Louise Jasper Dawson Creek Prince George Williams Lake and Anahim Lake where Stevens hunted a scarce caribou. They were joined briefly by local visitors Mr and Mrs Bob Powrie during their stay in Anahim Lake country.
News reaches that George E Bronson long time Bridge resident died in Grants Pass on September 9. Born March 12, 1877 at Brich he moved to Grants Pass in 1940. Survivors include four sons George Jr Portland Matthew Klamath Falls and Ray Kirby Ore nine grandchildren one sister Carrie Benham Coquille and one brother Henry Bridge. Interment planned at Grants Pass.
Arago PTO met on Thursday September 10 and decided to vote at the next meeting on repealing sponsorship of a scholarship fund. The teachers reception for Arago teachers will be held Saturday September 26 at the school gym. News arrives of the death of Miss Julia McTaggart who had lived in Avon Park Florida after Myrtle Point years.
Myrtle Point seeks a new chief as nine applicants vie to replace Bill Tankersley who joins the county juvenile department. The council, meeting September 2, planned to choose before Tankersley’s October 15 departure.
A few copies of The History of Coos County told in stories plays and poems by Coos County school children are available at the Herald office. Miss Lillian Farley, county school superintendent, left 10 copies there Tuesday. They are selling for 1 dollar. The book reflects credit to the students and their instructors.
