Bus Driver Workshops Planned in Coos County

Thompsons Return From 7211 Mile Alaska Auto Trip

Mr and Mrs Thompson of Gaylord return from a four week auto journey to Alaska driving 7211 miles. They report hunting trips yielded a prize caribou a 60 inch horn spread and a mountain goat and sheep. They paid 57 to 670 per gallon for gas in Canada and Alaska. A Eskimo student Miss Ernestine Olson 16 of Dillingham attends high school here as a sophomore and will return home after next June.

Coos Curry Electric Brig Plans Shelved At Coquille Meeting

At a special board session in Coquille last week the Foncour Electric Cooperative Inc. tabled action on its building location and ordered a study of current zoning. Bruce Shavere, manager, announced the move after a meeting called due to conflicting October dates. The October board meeting is canceled. the annual meeting is set for October 24 in the Coquille Community building, last year held in Gold Beach.

Three Coos County Students Win State Scholarships

The State Scholarship Commission announced 126 county and district scholarships for the Oregon state system. Recipients from Coos County include Paula Lancaster Remote Mary Johnson Coquille and Carl Sandstrom Bandon. Lancaster and Johnson attend OSC while Sandstrom is at the University of Oregon. Awards cover most tuition and fees and renew automatically for up to four years if academic eligibility remains.
