Myrtle Point Lions hold their annual golf party at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club. Golfing starts at 2 PM with a banquet in the club house to follow and a regular business meeting during the banquet. Lions are urged to attend in numbers and those unable to golf may join the banquet.
Myrtle Point Junior High football team faces St Monnica of Coos Bay at the local high school stadium this Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Coaches Gene Owens and Dick Van Duine expect the T formation with starters including Dave Stittle, Lynn Harriman, Keith Starrig, Don W, Paul, Steve Ris, Richie Daniels, Jim Thomas, Danny Noyes, Dick Armstrong, and David Wilson.

City attorney will draft an ordinance assigning new street names including East Willow, 18th Street, Shones Lane to 24th Street, Culver Lane to 25th Street, Pine Street, and Snyder Court. Mitch Myers named new fire chief with C P Moore as assistant. appointment effective Oct 1 after retirement of Chief John Fellner.
Coos County Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests for a two day event starting Monday September 24 with a stop at Eden Ridge to hear Pacific Power and Light officials about the Eden Ridge project. The group tours Agness with social hours dinner at Singing Springs Ranch and overnight lodging available followed by breakfast at Larry Lucas Lodge before returning noon Tuesday.
The Myrtle Point Vikings visit the Bobcats for the season’s first home game this Friday at 8 pm on the high school field. Both teams come off two touchdown wins as rivals with a history of close matches. Myrtle Point will supply live music with a 65-strong band and a revitalized pep squad after a California pep clinic. Fans should use the Harris street entrance due to new construction.

Four Coos cheese factories provided bricks of cheese and the National Cranberry Canners supplied cranberry sauce for serving. The booth served about nine to ten thousand pieces of cheese and many cranberry sauces.

Last Thursday the Methodist Young Folks hosted the season's first MYF meeting in the church social room with many youths present. The group meets weekly on Thursdays at 6:30 PM. John Wakaker serves as treasurer and lead organizer for the season's activities.
Twenty two golfers from Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club traveled to Bandon last Sunday for the fourth inter club tournament of the season. The Coquille team defeated Bandon 30 to 27 as action began around 2 p.m. with a fierce battle across the course.
