Marion C. Miller, a 60 year resident of Dora, tests Brewster Valley West Coast consolidation telephones completed Sept 7. Miller recalls building the line 46 years ago and laments loss of local gossip as neighbors now gain outside connections. He hopes to reach his 100th birthday. He was the first secretary of the Brewster Valley system.
West Coast Telephone's Myrtle Point exchange now serves about 50 Brewster Valley residents after acquiring the half century old Brewster Valley Telephone cooperative. George McBride and Edwin Abernathy announced the modernization and expansion, noting the overburdened lines and winter storm damage. The cooperative organized May 4, 1908, with shares sold at 20 dollars, and several members helped in construction before the takeover.
Parents and pupils at McKinley elementary invite the public to a Fall Festival at the school house on Friday at 7 pm. The event supports the primary school. New pupils include twins Rocky and Ray Heller and Larry and Gary Wells. Teacher is Effie Adams. The festival is 18 miles from Myrtle Point.

Bobcats defeated Myrtle Creek 20 to 7 in their home opener. Gene Boone and Jesse Adams carried the ball for long gains, Ken Calkins scored from close range, and Myrtle Point led early before the Bobcats rallied.

Thirty two golfers from Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club qualified for the Annual Fall Championship. Play begins next Sunday Sept 30 with two weeks allowed for the first 18 holes due to hunting season. First round scores due by Oct 7 if possible.
Mrs. Kermeth Crow, chairwoman of the kindergarten PTA, announces registration for the Myrtle Crest series next day at 8 am. Mr. and Mrs. A Pie in Newport, Tennessee attend, with local residents Lewis Sarr, Mrs. Bundy, and Mr. Starr noted as part of the community.
