City council adopts Zone A 2 permitting mobile home sites on about 25 acres. Boundaries run 100 feet south of Maple Street to 500 feet south, east along Greer addition, west to 16th street. Homes must meet size and all codes. 30 day hookup notice after sewer line completion.
The Myrtle Hotel hosted the inaugural meeting of a new quarterback club. Curt Beckham was named president, Milton Schroeder secretary-treasurer, and coach Jack Reeves led a Newport game briefing with assistant Don Fisher discussing backfield work. The group, open to sports fans, will meet weekly at 7 a.m. Mondays in the hotel dining room to foster closer ties with coaches.
The Powers Lions Club offers a 25 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of vandals who damaged rest rooms at Orchard Park. Boards were kicked from walls and doors torn from hinges, with further damage to the fiberglass roof of older facilities. Orchard Park is city owned and the Lions Club has funded the rest room project.
Coos County Extension Agent Dick Brown notes the four leaf clover with an H on each leaf symbolizes 4-H. National reach cites 24 million alumni and 2.5 million current youth members. In Coos County, 1,303 found the clover in the past year. 4-H aids youths ages 9 to 19 in character and leadership skill development.
The International Association of Game, Fish and Conservation Commissioners, meeting in Tucson, unanimously rejected Attorney General Ramsey Clark’s call for nationwide firearm licensing and registration. They warned such measures threaten gun rights, cost taxpayers millions, and would not curb crime, urging enforcement of existing laws instead. Phil Schneider of Oregon urged the state's delegation to oppose the proposals.
Jim Smith and Mary Powrie spoke at Myrtle Point Chamber lunch seeking 750 for a foreign exchange student for 1968 69. An adult advisory chapter must be formed to meet American Field Service rules and a Sept 23 meeting at 7 30 pm in the school library invites interested locals.

Chairman Gus Metzgus praised participants and urged a distinctive event, noting Myrtle Crest students carried 118 UN flags and one World flag last year.
