New Street Lighting System Underway

Pacific Power and Light Company crews install 37 mercury vapor street lights in Myrtle Point as part of a city-wide plan. Local manager Bill Head in Coquille says the 21 000 lumen fixtures will line Highway 42 widening routes after a Portland headquarters survey and lighting layout.

Mrs Schroeder Succumbs At 84

Laura Eva Schroeder wife of the late Henry A Schroeder died Saturday September 9 at Keizer Memorial Hospital in North Bend at age 84. She lived in Myrtle Point since birth September 5, 1883 and married Henry A Schroeder on September 26, 1905. Survivors include two sons Elton A and Elbert L, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren. funeral held in Myrtle Point with Rev Gerald Wright officiating. Interment at Sunset Mausoleum. Memorials to Myrtle Point Presbyterian Church fund.

Coquille Water Management Committee Seeks Planning Aid

The Coquille Water Management Committee met at the Port of Coos Bay on Sept 7 with 12 county representatives. They defined the first phase scope selecting a cost benefit study for the Fairview Dam impoundment and asked for a $7500 budget in 1967-68 plus HUD advice on using 701 funds. Coos County budgeted one third of the planning cost while HUD warned funding depends on future land use and zoning approvals after local votes against zoning. The group considered alternatives including more aid, local funds, or delaying until zoning is established and HUD grants become available.

Grange Opposes Fair Change In County Fair Plan

Myrtle Grange H E C votes to oppose handing the fair to the County due to altered plans. The first fall meeting is Sept 14 at 8 p.m. at the Stanton Stevens home. An November visitation night is set for the first meeting in November.

Mobile X-Ray Visits Coos County in 1967 Schedule

The last mobile chest x-ray unit visit to Coos County will run September 19 to 22 with locations in Coos Bay Myrtle Point and Pony Village. Hours span 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on most days and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday. Shock injures two Coquille contractors at high voltage overlook

Darrell L. Cox, 62, and Emery J. Cox, 18, were injured Friday morning while preparing a scaffold near a 12 000 volt line. They escaped fatal harm thanks to a metal screen around the bank. Both were treated for flash burns at Mast Hospital and released the same day.
