A county courtroom session last week discussed the Dement Creek Curry county road from Dement ranch to near section 39 head of Dement Creek. The county plans to condemn property owners’ land for the project.
The Presbyterian Ladies Aid plans a September 18 rental event hosted by Mrs Veatch and Mrs Ed Jones. At last week’s gathering on Mrs Henry Schroeder’s lawn, Mrs Thomas Guerin received an angel food cake for her wedding anniversary.
Firemen responded to a blaze at the depot aerocs on the river bank around 2 PM Tuesday. The fire was brought under control after a lengthy effort and a potential roof ignition was averted when Ree Ray sounded an alarm.
Lee Groskopf 27 faces larceny from a person charges after a drunken incident on a Powers railroad bridge. He posted bail with Earl Noel’s watch as security then quit his job and returned to Washington. Noel, injured by a fall, was hospitalized with a broken neck and back injuries.

The Mayor of Myrtle Point Oregon proclaims September 11 to 14 1938 for the Coos County Fair Exhibition. The proclamation urges city businesses to close from 1:00 to 5:00 PM on those days to support the event and its educational and economic aims.

Installation set for Rally Day on Sunday October 6.

Myron W Davin, 23, was committed to the county jail by Justice G N Bolt on a charge of reckless driving. He won timed 900 and sects.
Miss Marjorie Van Alstein of Bridge has enrolled at a Portland conservatory of music for a four year course. She played with the Myrtle Point High School band, earned local recognition as a musician, and is a 1935 graduate majoring in piano and studying orchestra on the melophone.
The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints women’s department gathered at Mrs Charles McCracken’s home last Friday. They visited while quilting and served watermelon to attendees including Mrs Ben James Mrs Lewis McMullen Mrs Ernest Allen and others. The next meeting is scheduled for September 20.
About 300 people attended the Camas Valley Townsend club picnic at Camas Valley on Sunday. The event featured a speaker lineup from Roseburg and Myrtle Point, a Back Seat Driver skit, Townsend orchestra music, free watermelon and refreshments, and attendees from Myrtle Point, Roseburg, Glide, Myrtle Creek, Brockway, Olalla, Norway, Coquille, and Camas Valley.
Frank Draper son of Mr and Mrs J W Draper of Myrtle Point receives signal recognition as center on the USS Black Hawk 1934-35 champions of the United States Asiatic Fleet. Draper, a Myrtle Point High School graduate, is noted for splendid playing and sportsmanship as the team earns Navy ratings and eyes on all Navy honors. Draper is stationed in Shanghai as reports reach home.
R J Thompson of Seattle Washington was injured when his car struck a railing on Powers Road near Rhods Creek Tuesday. He swerved to avoid an oncoming gravel truck from Myrtle Point, causing the vehicle to collide with a railing and suffer a sprung axle, wrecked radiator, generator, and steering apparatus.

Local couple Jacqueline Braden of Myrtle Point and Mainard Bond of Coquille wed at 8 30 Friday night in the Methodist church with witnesses Delbert Bond of Port Orford. Rev W C Cromk officiated. The couple plans to reside with Braden’s mother Mrs Auguei Braden in Coos Bay for now.
A birthday dinner was given by Mrs. Corda Lewellen. Attending were Mary Gladys Twitwell and the hostess.
A large crowd gathered at Fairview Grange Hall Saturday to form a Townsend club with Coquille visitors. Mrs Paul Walker and Miss Edythe Woodward provided entertainment. Lans Len was elected president and Loyd Teagarden secretary. Next meeting set for Sept 21 at 7 30 with new members welcome. R. R. Soper helped bring Elder A A Baker and hosted lunch at the Soper home beforeJoining the group.

Eider Mareue Cook, a missionary of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, arrived last Saturday evening to visit Myrtle Point and Bandyn. A Vancouver Washington native, Cook previously served in the town about twenty years ago for a two year stint.
