Robert Sandford Weekly born Stavelford Oregon March 18 1898 died September 7 1948 at age 50 seemingly from a heart attack. Survived by wife and brothers Thomas Weekly Myrtle Point and Roland Weekly Myrtle Point. Final interment at Norway Cemetery with Rev Briggs in charge.

Bobby Doerr, a Boston player spending time in Lucis Land, sponsors a county hunt for bears preying on sheep in Coos county. At least a dozen more bears are believed to prey on sheep in the Gaylord district.
T. T. Munger of Portland and director of Save the Myrtlewoods Inc visited Myrtle Point and nearby areas this week. He noted progress on purchasing a Chetco river myrtle grove seven miles from Munger and plans to turn it into a park with state forestry funding. Officials of Save the Myrtlewoods hope large timber companies halt operations in the groves.
Mr and Mrs Elton Schroeder and family travel to Salem to attend the Oregon State Fair which closes Sunday. Mr Schroeder will attend Mayors Day at the fair on Thursday and the family plans to return after the event.

Myrtle Point city council read and accepted Herold Korn’s resignation as police chief effective immediately with circumstances last week triggering action. Walsh named acting chief. Korn had been in the post before, and Horn completed six months on the force.
A timber fire near Graveyard Harmony mills was under control by late Wednesday night. About twelve men battled the blaze through Tuesday night, protecting a Carver and Huston mill that was briefly threatened with destruction. Andy Weber, owner, confirmed to Herald staff.

Regular classes began Wednesday at 8 30. Football practice runs daily as Myrtle Point prepares for the opening game with Bandon here Friday night September 17.
State Board of Pharmacy member L. L. Riggs conducted business in Myrtle Point on Wednesday, visiting local facilities and meeting with staff during the inspection tour.
At about 11 PM Sunday a Ford coupe driven by C Selina ve vobben ve on the Bey de Point Roseburg highway left the road. The driver and one occupant were hospitalized. A second occupant, Westbury, sustained cuts and bruises while a third, William Gregory, was uninjured.
Jack Farris, 21, sustained serious injuries when a truck rolled over at a Nor Jor dump site. He fractured his right leg and suffered other possible injuries as a result of the mishap.

The weather bureau at Coos Bay warned of the greatest fire danger of the season as western Oregon logging camps largely shut down due to a dry east wind and high temperatures pushing humidity below 30 percent. No major fires were reported in the Cool Fire patrol district, though several smaller incidents occurred amid the threat from careless campers.
Volunteers answered a Tuesday night blaze at a residence owned by Mrs. Geo Bryant on the west side of the river near the bridge. The fire started from a defective flue and was confined by the department with no injuries reported.
