Reading of the Port Tax levy shows 2.5 mills proposed under the 1947 48 levy, with the Powers water district not levying this year. Forrest’s figures cite totals around 1.18 billion in assessed value and district allocations including fire patrol and reforestation costs. Coos Bay port levy totals 943 487 87 dollars.
The 1848 schoel year will get underway in Myrtle Pola with a teachers list for high school instructors and staff for the 1948-40 term. Registration dates are noted along with names of key staff including Miss Madeline Pendleton and Mrs. Mary M. Bright for first grade and several other instructors across grades.

Registration for the selective service act opens today at Myrtle Point City Hall with the American Legion Auxiliary handling duties. Office hours are 9 to 5 for today Friday and Saturday and next Tuesday and Wednesday. no age group registration. Temporary offices operate in Myrtle Point Coquille Bandon and Gold Beach with unregistered individuals directed to Coos Bay after next week.
The Twin Oaks District No. 6 petitions the District Boundary Board to hold a consolidation election merging Twin Oaks with Myrtle Point District 410. Myrtle Point has not yet submitted a joining petition, a prerequisite for action. For years Twin Oaks has been suspended and sent students to Myrtle Point.
A new timetable adds a school day route and a daily service with stops at Powers Gaylord Broadbent Myrtle Point and Coquille. The schedule, running on standard Coos County time, covers morning and afternoon departures and school event adjustments.
The 1948 Bobcats began practice under lights with 40 players Tuesday including about 15 freshmen. Curt Beckham noted key losses in Harvey Lewellen and Harry Amera re, while Bill Roush John Beetzel and others return. Several veterans plan to transfer to Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland.

Thirty six children were immunized at a Monday clinic held in the Methodist church by Dr Eleanor Gutman county health officer. Registration was led by Mrs Claire Lehmanowsky with assistances by Mrs Lela Elrod Coquille school nurse Mrs Tom Brierly Powers school nurse and aides Grace Stemmier Adella Riley and Belva Stemmier Myr the Point.
About 60 people attended the I O O F Rebekah picnic at Mc Clossey Grove in Norway. A friendly baseball game between both Wolves teams was played with no official scoring. Races for men women and children followed, with many men entering children’s events.
Jim Churchill a Myrtle Point senior in agriculture won District Number 1 farm mechanics contest sponsored by the Oregon Bankers Association and Future Farmers of America Foundation Inc. He earns 100 dollars and advances to District No 2 to represent Oregon FFA at the National Farm Mechanics contest in Kansas City next November. He operates the family home farm with his father and logs over 500 hours of custom tractor work yearly. He owns a Ford tractor set and equipment and maintains a busy farm shop with ongoing projects and repairs while serving as vice president of the local FFA chapter.
Austin Dodge owner announces matinees at Hiland Theatre starting Sunday September 5 with a 2 08 p m start time for the afternoon show.
Oregon state fair begins in Salem with events slated for September six. Admission stays at fifty cents for adult industrial displays while children twelve and under enter free amid parade pageantry.
Ralph Whitaker was named to the city council seat at the next regular meeting. He is known for lodge work in Myr the Point and has served on the city budget committee for a year.
Ford Worsham Jr named MVP of the 1948 American Legion baseball team of Myrtle Point at a Tuesday night dinner. Jack Pinkley chosen as outstanding player and received trophy from Commander Chester Lee Collier. Eleven team members attended, with bills of Coquille coach Jess Barton and guest speaker Bill Fortier of Coquille recounting minor league experiences.
Miss Glo of Lakeview arrives Sunday at home after a trip. Local friends greet her, noting her return and welcoming her with a small gathering at the residence.
George Hampton and wife from Arago will drive to Salem for the 22nd year to assemble the Coos County Fair booth. Sponsored by the Coos County Fair association, local manufacturers and processors provide materials for the exhibit. Other producers contribute additional products as part of this year’s display.
