Three Day Rodeo and Fair Draw Big Crowds
Splendid crowds enjoyed a three day rodeo and fair with over 160 saddle horses shown. Attendance ranged around 11 000 with about 8406 paid admissions. Dick Richards of LaGrande judged winners as events drew thousands of visitors. Winners included Ellis Roment in men’s saddle horse, Mrs Mac Johnson in women’s saddle, and various horse, station, and matched pair classes.

Aged Miner William Brathay Found Dead In Oregon
William Everett Brathay, born February 9 1868 in Hemis Mo, was found dead at the Tom Brack farm on the Middle Fork Myrtle Point from a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Schroeder funeral chapel. Burial in Norway cemetery. Survived by three sisters Mrs A Wolverton Mrs Arthur Sanders and Mrs Bud Harrison and three brothers Christopher Joe and Elbert Brad ley.

Promoters faced severe constraints with few volunteers and little planning time. Despite the strain, active organizers and the many paid workers at the event deserve credit for making progress amid scarce resources.

Coos County 4H Club Members Share Food for Fair
Coos County 4H club members contributed toward the fair by canning and displaying items at Pee Second. Winners include Grace Nelson North Bend and Patricia Clafisen Riverton for red awards in fruit and clothing categories. The Spreckles Canning contest awarded Harriett Young Lee Valley first, with other North Bend entrants placing.

Funeral services were held for Vernon R. Cottrell, 38, killed in a Flora Logging Co accident in Camas Valley on August 30. He was crushed under a truck that ran away on a steep incline. Survived by wife Helen Cottrell of Myrtle Point, parents Mr and Mrs George Cottrell of Big Bear and Sacramento, and brother Clifford of Richmond, California.

Miss Adeline Gurney arrived from Seattle to stay two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gurney before moving to Salem to teach this winter. Roy L Shull received a Public Utilities Commission permit to operate a milk and cream delivery route within 84 miles or 10 miles from Myrtle Point. Oliver Shull will drive the milk truck. Miss Doris Mae Bargelt came from Eugene for the weekend holidays to stay with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bargelt.
