The 103 3rd Street residence of Mr and Mrs Vern Knight burned Friday morning due to a defective flue. Mrs Knight saved the 10 month old baby and crib as a mysterious explosion hindered rescue of furnishings. Insurance covered part of the furniture. the couple remains with relatives until finding new housing.
The Inter-Church Fellowship will hold a dimmer at 7 p m in the Assembly of God church on Monday September 11 led by President Dr A Theodore Smith according to officials.
The 19 0 Bobcats face Coquille in an opening game with inexperience and a new system. Myrtle Point shows potential but lacks polish after limited practice. The staff plans a multi position substitution system to grant players a chance to prove themselves. Probable lineup remains undecided at game start.
Medford dealer W. L. Bell bought 128 lambs from J. C. Warner of Gaylord for Philips & Banning of Medford. The sale totaled 2822.52 dollars at 22 1/2 cents per pound. Phillips, with 40 years in lamb buying, called it the highest price ever paid.

George Albert James of Powers has been awarded a Bidwell research fellowship in forestry at the Berkeley campus of the University of California. He earned a B S F degree from the University of Michigan in 1948, announced by Dr. William R. Dannes, dean of the graduate division.
Coos county for 1950-51 shows total assessed value at $41,045,126 up from $38,988,768 last year. County levy stands at 11.5 mills while city levies rise, with Coos Bay and Bandon both at 1.9 mills. Bay drops 2 mills and Bandon cuts 1 mill.
Myrtle Point High School reports 260 students enrolled with 848 juniors and 953 freshmen counted in attendance totals. Bus routes for students to the high school remain the same as last year. Frank Farrin is named a new driver on the Gaylord to Myrtle route.
