High Registration Opens Next Week

Preliminary registrations for local high school students will occur next Monday through Wednesday though classes begin September 18 at 9:00 a.m. The Fall term is slated to end before school starts, avoiding interruptions this year.

Two Men Injured In Gaylord Wreck

Robison owner driver of a auto with Jesse Hayes and Charles Wagner struck gravel on the owers road near John Grant ranch Gaylord and plunged down a 20 foot embankment wrecking the car. Robison and Hayes were taken to Mast hospital with a broken nose facial injuries and a bruised shoulder. Both stayed overnight and returned home Wednesday morning.

Mrs Milton Craven returns to chief operator duties after 10 months on part time duty. Mrs Lloyd Jarvis also returns after a three month furlough and will share daytime duties with Craven. Night shift sees Ronald Endicott and Effie Knight as operators. Virginia Kelly acts as relief operator. Raymond Endicott resigns after a three month leave.

Library Board Sets August Activities and Schedule

The library board met at city hall to receive the librarian’s August report. Adult books loaned 708, children’s 173, state books 11, total 892. Revenue from pay books 2.00 and overdue fines 3.05. Books recased 11 and mended 28. It was decided the library will close the evenings of September 14 16 and 16 due to the fair.

VFW Picnic At Norway Grove Draws Portland Guests

The local VFW post and Auxiliary held their annual picnic at Norway grove Sunday with guests Mr and Mrs Dwight Alderman of Portland. Alderman, commander of World War Post No. 907, Portland, gave brief addresses. Attendees enjoyed ball games, horseshoes, and socializing in the afternoon.

Race Driver Hines Killed After Fairgrounds Accident

Myrtle Point Lions Initiate Seven New Members

At a Thursday meeting the Myrtle Point Lions club presented seven membership applications and elected Herman Tedsen Elbert Schroeder J N Mast R A Arnold Harry G Dement P O Lund and P W Culver. The group discussed promoting the Coos and Curry County Fair and appointed a committee to coordinate with the fair board. A cleanup of vacant lots and decorating unused displays was also planned. The club will meet again to finalize fall plans and later initiate two more members.
