Dian Davis Wins Blue Ribbon at State Fair Baking

Dian Davis of Myrtle Point won a blue ribbon in the 4-H white bread division at the state fair. Judges tested 318 loaves before naming 13-year-old Joan Yasui of Hood River as 4-H champion. Dian is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Davis.

Powers Man Killed In Fog Accident Near Powers

Edmund Valentine Fuller 51 died Friday morning when the tractor he drove on Sixes road near Powers overturned in fog, crushing him. A Powers resident for six years formerly of North Bend, he was a WWII veteran. Funeral Tuesday at Schroeder chapel with Rev Edw. McClurg. burial in Norway cemetery. Survived by wife Alice Marie, son Fred E. Fuller in the Army, daughter Mary Ellen Fuller of Powers, five sisters, two brothers Otis of Vernonia and Lyle of Swiss Home, and one grandchild.

High School to Open Monday for Regular Term

Myrtle Point High School opens Monday at 8:45 with a single day rerun plan. Students have 55 minute periods plus a 30 minute activity period and a noon hour from 11:45 to 12:15. Lunch rooms will be provided and buses run on last year’s schedule arriving about 8:45 and departing at 3:45. New students must register before Monday the 10th.

Hammer Wins Second Flight Title in Medford Golf Tourney

Miss Alice Hammer daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Hammer returned home after competing in the Southwest Oregon championship golf tournament at Medford. She won first in the second flight in the women's division, defeating Mrs Pat Odeswick of Ashland three down with two to go. Hammer’s 18 hole score was 87.

Rev McClurg to Lead New Men's Bible Class

The First Methodist Church will resume services on Sunday September 9 with a 9:45 Sunday school period introducing a new men's Bible class taught by Pastor Rev Edward McClurg. Myrtle Point Chamber Backs P P L Eden Ridge Hydro Project

The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce unanimously instructed Secretary Bob Parsons to draft a resolution endorsing Pacific Power and Light Co. plan to build a dam at Eden Ridge for a 40 million dollar hydroelectric plant. It urged the State Hydro-Electric Commission and the Federal Power Commission to grant permits for necessary preliminary work. The meeting was sparsely attended due to a scheduling confusion.

Coos County Women Attend Officers Training Day

Women of Coos county gathered at the Coquille courthouse for an officers training day session hosted by Miss Jean Shipman county extension agent. A parliamentary law skit titled Stop Me if I'm Wrong featured the Coquille Toastmistress club with a listed cast.

Coos County Firms and Individuals Donate to FFA Dorm

Donations and volunteer labor from Coos County firms and residents fuel the near completion of a 26 by 42 foot FFA dorm at the fairgrounds. Mrs Jener Ekblad is general chair and has marshaled support from Myrtle Point Bay area and Coos Bay donors. The facility will include showers and toilets and can house 50 boys during class periods this fall.

Bobcats Schedule Five Home and Four Away Games

The Bobcats announce season tickets for five home games and four away games for 1956. Home dates include Myrtle Creek September 21 and Taft October 26 with eight oclock kickoffs, plus Toledo October 5 Coquille November 2 and Reedsport November 9. Fall Golf Tournament to Start Sept. 30

The Coquille Valley Golf & Country Club announces the Fall Golf Tournament will start Sunday Sept. 20. Players must qualify by turning in 18 hole score cards to be placed in their class flight. The event is not a handicap format and winners advance to the final for the championship.
