Don Gilkison of Myrtle Point sustained serious injuries Monday afternoon while loading logs at George's logging camp on Big Creek near Bridge. A log slipped from a crane striking him, throwing him from the truck and injuring his back. He was rushed by ambulance to Mast hospital and was to remain hospitalized for several months after examination by Dr. H. H. Thomas.
On Monday September 10 at 830 p m the Coos Bay Scottish Rite Bodies present a drama titled The Design of the Masters written and directed by C W Wray 32 Knight Commander of the Court of Honor The cast includes Kenton Thompson Edward Cherchinsky Emmett M Smith and Walter J Norlin all 2nd Degree Masons The meeting is open to all Masons.
Oregon's 170 acre State Fairgrounds prepare for the 91st Oregon state fair with a fresh 2000 gallon paint coat. The eight day event runs Sept 1 through Sept 8 and is expected to draw over 300000 spectators viewing farm home and industry exhibits. Entertainment will include a resumed world champion act.
A letter from B. M. Smith of Powers urges Myrtle Point to run a bus service to the Coos county fair. He notes many Powers residents lack transport and would benefit from a Myrtle Point to Powers shuttle each day of the fair. He suggests a single bus route to boost attendance.
Gene Shaffer 17, of Myrtle Point, sustained back and rib injuries when the car he rode in skidded and rolled on Highway 42 near Bridge. He was thrown from the vehicle and, as of Tuesday, was in Mast Hospital in satisfactory condition, with a two to three week stay expected. Driver Ernest Belcher was behind the wheel.
Myrtle Point faces a potential candidate shortage for the November city election as mayor and three council seats may be vacant. Incumbent Mayor Bill Eads will not run again. council members John Heeren Robert Be and Ray Harris may also step down. Filing ends October 6 with two possible mayoral candidates Ray Harris and Robert Belloni.

The Texas primary results show an Ike Democrat winning with 1600 votes left uncounted. Senator Daniel will resign to run for governor, opening the U S senate race for newcomers and possibly aiding a Republican bid. Daniel did not back Eisenhower nor Stevenson, leaving Yar as a Stevenson case.
The weekly event at the Sportsmen's club sponsored by Fannie shoots returns Friday at eight. Participants are invited as usual with eats and ammunition available on the grounds.
NAM president Col G Parker told committees that current prosperity stems from a new confidence factor in the economy not fueled by war. He urged policies to sustain this growth and warned that confidence can fade overnight without a program to protect and encourage it.
L. Hartzog aged 32 of Oakridge Oregon fell about 65 feet while inspecting a transmission line between Myrtle Point and Norway. The safety belt broke as he dropped and died at 3 30 p m. He leaves a wife and stepson. The body was sent to Woodburn for burial.
Coos County Republican women met Monday afternoon in Coos Bay to hear Mrs. Mollie Josbey, assistant chairman of the GOP national committee, and Mrs. Margaret Von Lubken, state vice chairman of the GOP central committee. Attendees from the area included B. A. Wyrd, H. H. Thomas, Paul Hammer, Verne Lundy, W. L. Beil, and Signe Dayton, who was named area leader.
