OC Shindler and his wife were tied and gagged during a Wednesday night robbery at Fuhrmar and Shindler Drug Store in Bandon. Two armed intruders forced the safe open then escaped with the car and cash after leaving the couple bound.
The Myrtle Polst Future Farmers association hosted a community picnic at the Lester Strong myrtle grove near the Lundy cheese factory. More than a hundred members attended with a potluck dinner, watermelon feast by Paul Breuer, and Breuer supplied entertainment including contests and races for men women and children followed by swimming at the Coquille river swimming hole.
The Presbyterian Ladies Aid meets at the Presbyterian church parlors on Wednesday August 7 at two o'clock. Mrs Walter Laird and Mrs Hugh MacLean host. Miss Helen Whitaker, daughter of Mrs Belle Whitaker, will speak on her experiences in China.

Girls enter the style dress revue while boys enter demonstrations as record books accompany entries. Information for new clubs and joining is provided by Julia Bennett for home economics and George Jenkins for agricultural clubs.
Oregon extension reports a pioneer effort to organize rural youth ages 16 to 25. The South Forty club in Union county includes 25 members aged 18 to 30, with activities on production costs marketing transport and farm finance. Other counties form similar groups to meet youth needs as 4 H participation declines.
Victor Graham and Allan Fielder confessed to setting fires along the Coast highway near Carpenterville while en route from Brookings to Gold Beach. Fires earlier in the locality, motive given as employment, led to warrants and $1000 bail. both were bound over to the federal grand jury after preliminaries were waived.
Parents are reminded that children who will be six years old by October 1, 1838 may begin school on September 6.
Northwest towns face loss of PWA program benefits if they delay. Regional director warns that with hundreds of applications pending and 780 forms sent to localities in Oregon Washington Idaho and Alaska, timely submissions are essential to secure loans and grants. M. Bryant moved into Carver house at Eighth and Willow. Van Dorn relocated from Beu hours near Junior High to Nell Estate on Railroad Avenue.

Rural teachers of Con. County plan a Saturday gathering in the circuit court room for a preschool meeting. Officers led by President Laura Brandon and other officials will address health, home demonstration, and year start topics. Registration and noon-hour activities will allow teachers to enroll before August 29. Regular school resumes September 6 after enrollment and examinations.
Grace Lorraine Culbertson was arrested Tuesday for having no operator license and was fined the usual amount and costs.
The National Youth Administration increases Oregon student aid funds by 18000 to 134060, with 23 schools in the group slated to receive proportional allotments based on enrollment. Applications go to the institution heads, with program open to public and private non profit high schools and colleges for part time work and earnings limits set.
September meetings across eight communities cover detailed parliamentary procedure practices with focus on unanimous ballots suspending rules amending motions and other correct practices. Anyone countywide may attend and the home demonstration office offers mimeographed material at the court house in Coquille or by writing to Julia Bennett.
