The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce will meet next Tuesday September 13 at 6 30 p m at Floyds Cafe to finalize plans for county fair promotion and events.
The Myrtle Grange held a regular meeting on Tuesday evening accepting Don Trigg and Mrs Roland Schaad as members. Eugene Bartlett was given the obligation in the first two degrees. Final arrangements were made for a county fair booth.
The September 1 meeting recorded the resignation of Mrs A M Sunstrup with regrets. Mrs Dal King was recommended to fill the vacancy, while the board planned to ask the city council for more space and future improvements to city hall. Librarians reported 1036 total borrowings, 16 new registrations, and $13.70 in rentals and fines.
The Coquille Valley Country club hires Ralph Brown a noted Wisconsin golf pro and member of the Professional Golfers Association. LJ Maloney bought the club earlier this spring and is expected to arrive from Eau Claire this fall with Mrs. Maloney taking charge.
Charles Warren Clark of Myrthe Point drove onto railroad tracks Sunday morning in Marshfield, his car wedged on a switch half a mile from the yards, blocking a roundhouse engine. Police were summoned to remove the vehicle after it crossed the draw bridge on the ties.
Coquille residents and visitors share meals and visits as Mrs Hatcher hosts lunch with E C Barker family progress noted. Alden Barklow travels to Saen to see brother Roderic. John Feliner heads to Portland for Firemens convention. Mrs Giles visits family in Marshfield and plans return to San Francisco after six weeks in Oregon.
A west Coquille river manhunt stretches into a second day as one of the three robbers remains at large after the Shindler drug store heist. The gang's path leads from Lewiston Idaho to Bandon and Florence, with arrests in Idaho and Oregon and a dramatic farmhouse confrontation at Hartley’s Pleasant Valley home. Police pursue Crews and Bowersox while a third, Wayne, is jailed on armed robbery charges.
At a Monday city hall meeting the council approved a parks and parkways regulation ordinance. Resignation of Mrs A M Sunstrup from the city library board was accepted with Mrs Dal King filling the vacancy. A budget committee was appointed and extra police for fair time authorized.
Three Arago 4-H Dairy members Clyde Lillie Junior Gulstrom and Gerald Lillie plus county agent George Jenkins depart Coquille to compete in the Oregon State Fair Salem livestock judging contest representing Coos county. They earned the spot by tying for first with Myrtle Point Dairy club in a regional contest August 19 20 in northern Curry county with Curry and Douglas county club members assisting.
MPHS announces a freshmen versus sophomore war set for Friday at 3 p.m. The event invites student participation and signals a lighthearted school spirit matchup.
Henry Hess of LaGrande Democratic candidate for governor will address Coos county picnickers next Sunday September 1 at Norway Grove. County chairman W Kennedy says party members and others bringing a basket lunch are welcome to join.
Sunday picnickers included Mr and Mrs Leslie Dey Mrs Clarence Warner Marion of Dayton and Tom Gurney at Slähe. Weekend guests at the Werren Deyoe home were Mrs Agnes Kenyon and Armils Ann of Port Orford.
