Due to better revenue prospects for 1936 the budget shows appropriations exceeding revenue chiefly from Cuus bay Wagon road timber tracts. The county auditor explained the figures, with next week’s Herald containing the full budget and a Friday November 10 hearing on the proposed budget set.
A group from several churches, including the Presbyterian and Myrtle Font church, gathered for a large meeting Monday. Attendees enjoyed a noon covered dish dinner followed by an afternoon address by several participating members.
The Women’s Day group held a Monday afternoon meeting with talks on health and a health dish recipe. They announced a November show Freckles at Hiland theater and planned a model kitchen school with date to be set. Lela Elrod spoke on family health protection by immunization.

The estate of Christina M Cuter died about north of Bend is probated with Wm J McCude named administrator. Heirs include Agnes Cook, Sprague, Kabler, Martens, Heir list spans North Bend and Crystal Lake with an estimated value around $5,000 and debts of $1500.
Chester Houser was seriously injured after a fall from a donkey sled at the Brady and Nen camp near Coos River Sunday. He suffered an internal rupture and is in Coquille hospital, not improving rapidly.
The Ladies Aid of Arago organized a drive to fund a new church building. They raised over 9000 dollars with gifts from the community, the Arago Brick Company donating bricks, and local men volunteering carpentry. Miss Rachel Woodward designed and donated the church window.
The United States Civil Service Commission announces a competitive examination for postmasters. Receipt of applications closes November 8. Applications must be properly executed and submitted to the proper office. The notice cites Civil Service Act rules and form 22ET for eligibility and required information.
College youths from Hewat and Magjon Miss and Wolvur suffered minor injuries after a wreck near Merion Mowe. One car rolled over a roadside area injuring a passenger with an arm and scratches while drivers remained unable to return to Eugene.
A long, fragmented reminiscence recounts 1872 life around Brystle Point and Pleasant Valley. It covers the Barklow family voyage, homesteading, rough living, school, work on a ranch, daily chores, and community events culminating in a 1908 proclamation about closing Myrtle Point businesses for a local event.
A well attended Townsend club mass meeting featured addresses by Dr F E Townsend and R E Clements though radio reception was poor. G F Covove filled in, followed by music by Wranglers orchestra and vocal solos by Mr Lee Ray and others. The gathering included a silent prayer, reports from the national convention, and news of Oregon and Chicago delegates while planning a November turkey dinner.
The Townsend dance at the Gravelford community bidding last Saturday night was well attended and attendees reported a good time. Another dance will be held soon to cover remaining funds used for sending delegates to the national convention.
City police report Leadford Sutphin arrested Saturday on intoxication charges and fined five dollars. Dick Buckley of Marshfield arrested Tuesday evening on intoxication charges with bail forfeited at sixteen dollars.
Myrtle Point junior high defeats Coquille 19 to 7 as Keller, Cook, and Denville star for Myrtle Point. Keller intercepts and scores one TD, adds another, with Crantz and Arrell noted for Coquille.
About 65 Moose Legion members and their wives from Over County attended a Power gathering. A noon dinner in the Fellowship clubhouse preceded a guest talk by Tube Watkins of Corvallis and remarks by Frank Sincott. The event featured committees, a women’s business meeting, and a social program with refreshments.
County police report Grover Clemins, 47, arrested last Thursday on petit larceny. Ed Renberg, 50, held Saturday for drunkenness on a public street, fined 25 dollars with 30 dollars suspended, paid, and released. Harriett Ruth Bryant, 42, arrested Monday for drunkenness on a public highway, fined five dollars and costs and released after securing payment.
A large truck owned by William Irwin of Myrtle Point crashed through the floor of the Catching inlet bridge Sunday. Glen Shores, Irwin’s son in law and the driver, escaped as the bridge gave way. The tractor was bound for Allegany for logging use. Shores faces arrest for driving without a chauffeur's license.
A W Gardner who started Myrtlewood Bakery less than a year ago on November 15 1934 has sold the business. The deal takes effect tomorrow. Mr and Mrs Gardner have no definite plans yet. H E Whitaker of Jamestown NY is the new proprietor and with his wife and two year old son has moved into the living quarters over the bakery.
Maxine Dement reports on the exclusive girls school production featuring Greta McClellas and Phoebe, with Bir Mester Pi as a key figure. Tickets are available from any cast member and first seats are reserved at Sempert's with no extra charge.
A live fox exhibition will be held at the community building in Coos County for six silver fox classes including light silver adult male and female, pup, grand champion, and best matched pair. Blue foxes receive full consideration. Judging starts 10 a.m. with entries due by 9:30. A private sale of exhibited animals or pelts is planned for Nov 2 afternoon.
Albert Yedd and Otis Trout were in a Dora road accident 14 miles from Myrtle Point when the car left the road and sank. Yedd freed Trout from under the submerged vehicle and both were treated. Yedd was arrested for reckless driving and fined 25 dollars plus costs.
A batch of marriages and licenses were issued this week in the area. James Wesley Gilstrap and Elea nor Gladys McBee wed at Church of Christ in Marshfield. Cecil Weltzheimer and Ruth Le Titis Smith also married in Marshfield. Additional ceremonies include Cecil Phillip W Bourns and Alice Eleanor Collier at the Bourns residence. Rudolph Victor Backlund and Flossie Simmons in Bandon. Ben Steckel and Goldie Hudson in a Marshfield bride’s home. John Adrian Benson and Dorothy Johnson of Lakeside. Don Perry Prymale and Muriel Marie Johnson of Bandon. Ernest Bonde and Lucille McIntee. Thomas B Minturn and Nanole Minturn. Licenses were issued to several couples including Alex Diedrich, Port Orford, and others.
