UNICEF Set For Halloween in Myrtle Point
Myrtle Point residents may donate to UNICEF through a Halloween drive led by youth volunteers with UNICEF IDs. The Inter-Church Fellowship sponsors the event with chaperones and parent drivers, starting at 6 30 p.m. at the host church followed by refreshments.

Lions Act as Poll Observers in Myrtle Point Area
The Myrtle Point Lions club will act as poll watchers for the general election on November 3. President Jack Duno announced the plan to relay results to Coos Bay TV for immediate public tabulation. They will cover five polling places including Myrtle Grange at Norway, Myrtle Point Gun Club, city hall, high school agriculture room, and the Episcopal church.

Myrtle Crest Cubs Fall to Bandon in Saturday Game
The Myrtle Crest Cubs lost 13 to 0 to Bandon last Saturday as penalties halted several drives. Ken Engstrom and teammates repeatedly moved inside Bandon territory but were shut down by penalties and stout defense. Bandon's only scoring came on a 60 yard pass and a 60 yard run after kickoff. This loss ends Myrtle Crest's nine game unbeaten streak and league title hopes. The Cresters face Coquille next in their final game and aim to avenge an earlier 14 to 14 tie.

Myrtle Point frosh edged Powers frosh 19 to 6 on the home field. The halftime stalemate was 6 6. Bob Pugh had two rushing touchdowns and Dan Krewson added a two yard score and the lone extra point. Powers replied with a 55 yard pass from Caughell to Rolfe for their score.

United Good Neighbors Campaign Surpasses Goal in Myrtle Point
The United Good Neighbors drive in Myrtle Point topped its quota with total contributions of 461772. Divisions saw 938.50 from downtown commerce 2864 from industry 110 from public employees and 440.32 from schools. New supporters included Leep’s Sherwood Forest Acme Wood Norway Archery Acme Machine Shop and the Post Office. The city and Safeway both gave 100 percent. A rummage sale is planned November 6 at the Legion hall to raise funds for rally girls headed to San Francisco for a halftime show.

Claude Mason longtime Mason Hardware owner in Coquille will be remembered at funeral services Friday at 2 p.m. in Schroeder's Coquille chapel with burial at Sunset cemetery. He is survived by son Robert and two grandchildren. Mason belonged to the Masonic Lodge Coquille White Shrine and joined the Coquille Valley Bike Club in 1968.
