Planning Commission Opposes School Site South Myrtle Point

The Myrtle Point Planning Commission met on Monday night October 24 and reaffirmed opposition to the school district’s highway site on the Garrett Royer and Wise properties south of Myrtle Point. The panel favored another site as more advantageous and requested a study on upgrading city street lighting.

Jobs For Youth Now Available In Myrtle Point

The Oregon State Employment Service seeks unemployed youths aged 16 to 21 for interviews at City Hall Myrtle Point. Interviews are scheduled 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday October 31 and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday November 1 1966. Youths can learn about job training and work opportunities from the department representatives.

Myrtle Point area residents will be offered to Zip Code their mailing site during October. Postmaster Miron Schroeder announced the plan to have letter carriers deliver the postage needed cards.

Robert Bellon was elected the standing committee member of the Diocese of Oregon during the TBth Annual Episcopes Diocese convention held October 16 and 17 in Portland. Interchurch Fellowship organizes a Halloween UNICEF Drive with youths meeting at the Christian Church at 5 30 PM to canvass the city. Halloween Parade Showcases Spruce and Maple Students

Spruce and Maple schools held a Halloween parade Friday weather permitting. The event starts at 1:30 PM with children marching from Spruce Street to 4th Street and back up Maple Street. Students display costumes from art class. the Chamber of Commerce will hand out Halloween treats after the parade.

Coos County Fairboard to Decide on County Takeover

Tom Guerin will lead the fairboard meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday Oct 2 in the Myrtle Hotel. The main item is electing whether to transfer the fairgrounds and buildings to Coos County. If approved the county would continue with fair operations. Five directors will be elected to appoint officers for the year.

Myrtle Crest PTA hosts a Halloween carnival October 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Myrtle Crest gym with prizes cake walk games and refreshments. Proceeds benefit the PTA Scholarship Fund and November 1 a general meeting with Hal Moore slides and a report on the carnival is planned.
