Police Chief Lewis Floyd resigned on Monday October 3 from the Myrtle Point Police Department to accept a position in Seattle Washington. Floyd had led the department since July 1962 and served since July 1957. He worked with local schools on juvenile problems and reported to the City Council monthly. Merlyn Hathaway, current Coos County Deputy Sheriff, will replace Floyd as local chief and take the duties on November 15.
