The completed Highway 42 between Myrtle Point and Gray Creek was dedicated at a luncheon at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge. An 89 member crowd heard remarks from Glenn Jackson of the Oregon State Highway Commission and others including State Senator Sam Dement and Rep. Rod McKenzie.

Oregon StatePenitentiary officer Hanley Barker told Myrtle Point Rotary Club inmates spoken to over 40 000 students last year as part of a rehabilitation program started in 1968.
