The completed Highway 42 between Myrtle Point and Gray Creek was dedicated at a luncheon at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge. An 89 member crowd heard remarks from Glenn Jackson of the Oregon State Highway Commission and others including State Senator Sam Dement and Rep. Rod McKenzie.
Myrtle Point hosts Pacific in a Sunset Six clash as both sides seek crucial league wins. Myrtle Point sits 4-1-1 vs Pacific 6-6, with last season’s 33-0 Bobcats victory over the Pirates looming.
A panel of Marshfield High School youths told Myrtle Point High students that marijuana is readily accessible in Coos County. They described delivery times as fast and cited reasons teens use the drug including escaping problems, seeking a high, or peer influence.

Winners were announced in the 1971 Fire Prevention Week slogan contest at three District 41 elementary schools Myrtle Point Fire Department sponsored. First, second and third places at Bridge Maple Broadbent schools earned cash prizes of 5 3 and 2 dollars with slogans by Carol Hasel Gordon Cromwell Jeff Moon Pat Laird Brad Henshaw Dara Stein Phil Shellabarger Cheryl Anglin Sormy Fawcett and more.
A Veteran's Day breakfast is scheduled for next Monday at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge from 9 to 10 a.m. The event is sponsored by the American Legion posts of Myrtle Point and Coquille and invites all veterans to attend.
