Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce leaders and officials from Coquille and Powers chambers will dedicate the four lane Highway 42 segment between Myrtle Point and Gray Creek at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge. The program starts at 12 15 p m with remarks by Glenn Jackson head of the Oregon State Highway Commission.
The South Coast Chapter of the Mental Health Association of Oregon received the Chapter Award at the 37th annual MHAO meeting in Portland. Dr Douglass Johnson accepted the honor from Mrs Jack Brookings for community leadership in Coos and Curry counties, expanding staff, and a notable film festival.
A panel discussion and seminar on drugs will be presented October 19 at Myrtle Point High School in two sessions open to the public. The first session at 1 p.m. targets students with Marshfield High speakers from Coos Bay addressing the southwest Oregon drug problem. A question and answer period will follow with audience participation.
Dr. Mephen Dow Backham headlines a free talk at the Coos Bay Public Library on Saturday Oct 83 about the Rogue Indian story Peegie with panelists from the state police and a local minister. A video from students on drug abuse will be shown and the second session begins at 7 45 p m in the high school cafeteria.
Mr. and Mrs. James E. Wells and Jon Brant open the J and J Bakery at 310 Spruce in Myrtle Pols, taking over the Wigwam Bakery location. The Wrights sold the business to Wells Brant and continues operating the Wigwam Bakery in Coos Bay. Brant, a Myrtle Point native, trained as a baker in California.
Myrtle Point faces a crucial Sunset Six test at Bandon as both teams seek a second round win. Myrtle Point relies on a strong rushing attack to counter Bandon speed and power while the Tigers look to quarterback Steve Clausen and a capable passing game in a pivotal road game.
