Food stamp meetings scheduled in Coos County
The Coos County Board of Commissioners announced meetings with USDA Food and Nutrition Service representatives for grocers in Coos County to familiarize and authorize participation in the Food Stamp Program. Meetings are Tuesday Oct 12 at 8 pm in the Neighborhood Facility Coos Bay and Wednesday Oct 13 at 2 pm in the Coos County Courthouse Coquille. Paul Runyan will invite all grocers to participate. kits with information and forms have been sent. Retailers are cautioned not to accept food coupons until USDA authorization.

General Telephone workers win Meritorious Service citations
Two Coos Bay area General Telephone Company employees, Perm er R. Vaughn and Alvin A. Claffin of Bandon, received La Croix Certificates of Meritorious Service on October 1 from company president Alfred J. Barran. Priorities set by CAP board for 1978 anti poverty program
The Southwestern Oregon Community Action Committee board met on Tuesday September 28 to set 1978 plans prioritizing community organization housing emergency food and medical services and a comprehensive volunteer program. A economic development program was not approved and Cam Humdinger summer youth program continued with technical assistance to day care Head Start and legal services for low income people. Housing efforts include aiding Housing Authorities documenting needs supporting Turn Key 3 projects and identifying candidates for public housing such as the 236 program under HUD and the Housing and Urban Development Department. The board approved submitting a 9520 funding proposal initiated by volunteer coordinator Joanne Wright to the National Center for Voluntary Action in Washington DC. Also a report on the Office of Economic Opportunity CAP evaluation was accepted. Tom Cribbins Myrtle Point was named Board Secretary replacing Mary Baker who resigned.
