The court granted several divorces on Friday including Nadine R from Floyd M Fieds Pearl M from John L Cowan Delmer H from Hazel G Felies Emma B from Thomas M Laskey and others. warrants calls and parole actions follow with multiple cases and sentences noted.
William J McLyman Jr. of Coos County died after a gun he and another boy were cleaning discharged on Sunday October 1836. He was 64 years old, born February 16, 1972, at Powers. Funeral services were held at Schroeder Funeral Home with Rev F H Barr officiating. interment at Sunset. Pallbearers were Boy Scouts.

Mrs Louis Laird Erwin Laird Mr and Mrs Rollie Alford and Mrs Erwin Alford were on a business trip to Myrtle Point and Coquille Wednesday of last week. Returning home they pulled out to pass and rolled over the embankment hitting a telephone pole but no one was hurt and only one front fender was damaged.
Inmates include H. C. Fisher age 3 jailed after an Empire altercation facing assault with a dangerous weapon. Henry J Shields 3 held on drunkenness with a 10 day sentence. Cleo Carson 36 and Jack Connelly 42 serve 30 days each for vagrancy after Marshfield arrests. Robert Lee Westmoreland 47 fined 96 and 30 days for driving while intoxicated. Milton Fox 37 given five year circuit court term for assault armed with weapon with 90 day stay. Vernon Winburn 32 jailed after quarrel over burial expenses with $1,000 bond set.
The district of Myrtie Point announces it will call all outstanding warrants up to the current year’s dating, sweeping prior balances as part of its financial actions.
George P. Topping named executor for Chas W Smith estate valued around 1000 with heirs two brothers a sister nephew and fraternal lodge as beneficiaries. Elvin Eade appointed administrator for John Anderton estate valued about 200 with no heirs. L B Stanley named guardian for Darlene Frances Manley.
The crippled children division of the state relief committee with county relief and wealth units will hold a field diagnostic clinic for crippled children in Coos county at Wesley hospital in Marshfield on Thursday Oct 7 at 10 30 am. Open to any child under 21 with a signed application from a physician and parents.
A regular meeting of the Home Economics Extension Advisory Council for Coos County will be held Saturday October 15 at 2 45 p m in the county agent's office in Coquille The committee meets the third Saturday of each month to discuss administrative problems or recommendations.
Coos County Fair Board lists winners across breeds including ewes rams and lambs with Ernest Davenport Myrtle Point taking multiple honors. Names recur for Grand Champion birds and top pens across Romneys Cotswolds English breeds and other classes with exhibitors from Myrtle Point Broadbent Arago Langlois and Marshfield.
WPA grants funded 119 traps and 374 predators by hunters in July. Dr W H Lytle notes progress after prior funding cuts, with a total of 444 predators killed including 39 bobcats eight bears and other animals. State records credit the cooperatives and WPA traps for driving down coyote numbers.
Myrtle Grange will meet next Tuesday October 18 at 7 pm at the grange hall in Myrtle Point. Speakers include J P Beyers county assessor on the tax situation in Coos county and Henry Gustafson of North Bend plus E L Peterson of Pomona Grange on Bonneville power. Public invited.
Next Sunday October 16 the Parkersburg Oldtimers Club reunion gathers at Parkersburg school grounds on Bear Creek. Rain won t halt the event moved to the playshed with a picnic dinner. A quilt project will display a wheel of fortune pattern carrying about 900 Parkersburg names from past and present residents.
Annamae Holverstott daughter of Mr and Mrs C A Holverstott of McKinley is chosen for first soprano in the women’s chorus at Oregon Normal School where she studies education. The chorus begins preparations for the Christmas assembly program. Precipitation since Sept 1 1973 noted with principal emphasis on local weather.
Friday noon at a local cafe James Mott spoke to a fairly large audience about the activities of the 75th congress. He discussed legislation affecting Coos and Curry counties and the chamber of commerce gathering in Myrtle Point.
Complaints filed by McGeorge Gravel against A H Howard Julia Howard and Ray Grant. The suit alleges ownership disputes from 1920s over lots at Rowland Creek and Coquila River junction near Gaylord with prior easement and equipment installations. Plaintiff seeks restraining order damages and an easement plus costs. Also listed are two related cases: Edward L. Bryan versus Ray F Congdon for auto accident damages and Darene Frances Stanley versus Grover Guther for dog bite injuries with substantial claimed damages.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce met at a local cafe at 630 pm. John Edmund of Marshfield spoke about a travel trip lasting over 10 000 miles from Coos Bay along the Pacific coast to San Diego to the South Sea islands and Hawaii and back home.
Fred Wilson Combs pled guilty to failure to stop at an accident scene and was sentenced to 41 days in county jail plus a 25 dollar fine with credit for time served. Richard Thomas Foster pled guilty to assault while armed and received one year in county jail with 10 days parole if he abstains from alcohol. Docket items list hearings at 10 am on October 31 for cases brought against the State Industrial Accident Commission by Ronning Karousch Harris Brows McQuigg and Kuanievit.
The Myrtle Point church fellowship dinner was held Monday at 6 46 in the Presbyterian church dining room. Dr M White of the Church of Christ spoke at the Methodist church gathering. Offerings go to the Children’s Farm Home at Corvallis run by the Oregon WCTU. Other Christian work topics were discussed.
State agriculture reports show 130 samples tested in September with six illegal butterfat readings and 21 failing to meet state grade specs. One sample lacked both fat and score. Judges from the industry scored the butter at the Salem office as part of a new regulatory program to protect consumers and creameries.
Oscar Shields and Agnes Lewis of Marshfield wed October 5 in St. Episcopal Church Coquille. Ross Dean of Gardiner and Sonamae Scott Morser of Coquille married Sunday at Baptist parsonage Coquille. Wilbur Collins and Myrtle Roberts of Coquille received a marriage license Friday. Arthur Aos of Coquille and Virginia Ellingwood of Everett Washington were married Saturday. Haye and Mary Dawley of Gold Beach obtained a license Friday.
A car driven by Eleanor Edwards of Myrtle Point collided with a Washington car about one mile from Myrtle Point on the Myrtle Point Coquille highway. The Edwards party included Kathryn Sumerlin Frank Furman Vance Freeman and Edith Redell. None were seriously hurt but Edith Redell suffered a black eye. Washington car was slightly damaged and Edwards' car was badly wrecked.
