Youth Dies After Accidental Gun Discharge While Cleaning

William J McLyman Jr. of Coos County died after a gun he and another boy were cleaning discharged on Sunday October 1836. He was 64 years old, born February 16, 1972, at Powers. Funeral services were held at Schroeder Funeral Home with Rev F H Barr officiating. interment at Sunset. Pallbearers were Boy Scouts.

Car rollover near Myrtle Point injures none in near miss

Mrs Louis Laird Erwin Laird Mr and Mrs Rollie Alford and Mrs Erwin Alford were on a business trip to Myrtle Point and Coquille Wednesday of last week. Returning home they pulled out to pass and rolled over the embankment hitting a telephone pole but no one was hurt and only one front fender was damaged.

Predatory Animal Control Gets Aid in Oregon

WPA grants funded 119 traps and 374 predators by hunters in July. Dr W H Lytle notes progress after prior funding cuts, with a total of 444 predators killed including 39 bobcats eight bears and other animals. State records credit the cooperatives and WPA traps for driving down coyote numbers.

Next Sunday October 16 the Parkersburg Oldtimers Club reunion gathers at Parkersburg school grounds on Bear Creek. Rain won t halt the event moved to the playshed with a picnic dinner. Complaints filed by McGeorge Gravel against A H Howard Julia Howard and Ray Grant. The suit alleges ownership disputes from 1920s over lots at Rowland Creek and Coquila River junction near Gaylord with prior easement and equipment installations. Plaintiff seeks restraining order damages and an easement plus costs. Also listed are two related cases: Edward L. Myrtle Point C of C Hears 10000 Mile Coastal Tale

The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce met at a local cafe at 630 pm. John Edmund of Marshfield spoke about a travel trip lasting over 10 000 miles from Coos Bay along the Pacific coast to San Diego to the South Sea islands and Hawaii and back home.

Court House News: Guilty Pleas in Local Assault and DUI Cases

Fred Wilson Combs pled guilty to failure to stop at an accident scene and was sentenced to 41 days in county jail plus a 25 dollar fine with credit for time served. Richard Thomas Foster pled guilty to assault while armed and received one year in county jail with 10 days parole if he abstains from alcohol. Fellowship Meet Of Local Churches Held In Myrtle Point

The Myrtle Point church fellowship dinner was held Monday at 6 46 in the Presbyterian church dining room. Dr M White of the Church of Christ spoke at the Methodist church gathering. Offerings go to the Children’s Farm Home at Corvallis run by the Oregon WCTU. Other Christian work topics were discussed.

Oregon butter scorings find several low grades

State agriculture reports show 130 samples tested in September with six illegal butterfat readings and 21 failing to meet state grade specs. One sample lacked both fat and score. Judges from the industry scored the butter at the Salem office as part of a new regulatory program to protect consumers and creameries.

Sunday Collision Involves MP Girl

A car driven by Eleanor Edwards of Myrtle Point collided with a Washington car about one mile from Myrtle Point on the Myrtle Point Coquille highway. The Edwards party included Kathryn Sumerlin Frank Furman Vance Freeman and Edith Redell. None were seriously hurt but Edith Redell suffered a black eye. Washington car was slightly damaged and Edwards' car was badly wrecked.
