Local Future Farmers of America boys took part in a livestock judging contest at the Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland. The Myrtle Point team finished 21st among 87 teams with Washington, Idaho, Montana, California and Oregon competing. Kenneth Mevens led with 13th in Holstein heifer judging. The Mount Vernon team won the cone test and the Bangor team led the animal husbandry contest. Five western states sent 650 FFA members to the Northwestern meeting at the Masonic Temple in Portland with cash prizes totaling 160, a Washington rep taking first. Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce financed the Portland trip.

Elgin Social Club Card Party At Masonic Temple
The Elgin Social Club held a card party at the Masonic Temple last Thursday at eight. Suits played included suction contract and pinochle at ten tables with top scores by E C Barker and Mrs Chris Moller auction Mr and Mrs Ray Booker of Coquille contract and Miss Helen Blodgett and Stenry Rosslow pinochle. Hot tamales and coffee served to about 30 guests.

H Pearce shop since the Bandon fire in September 1836, after previously operating a repair shop in Bandon for several months. His wife owned a nearby cafe, and before Bandon he managed the Pearce shop for 30 years before returning post fire.
