U S Commerce Official to Speak to Coos County Chamber

Harold K Cherry of the U S Department of Commerce will address the Coos County Chamber of Commerce at noon on Thursday October 24 at the Tioga hotel. He will discuss the 1957 United States Trade Mission to India where he served as Deputy Chief and helped set up the program. The four businessmen and two officials in the mission traveled six weeks to promote international trade and goodwill, visiting 35 countries and nearly 400 cities and meeting over 125,000 foreign businessmen.

Teachers of District Begin Year’s Activities at October 2 Meeting

The Myrtle Point Education Association opened its year with a potluck on October 2 led by Albert Skaggs of Research Oregon Education Association. He outlined the field as well as topics like school legislation child welfare and teacher placement with studies from last year on districts and elections turnover and population per district. Attending were school board members and teachers from Gaylord Bridge Broad Bend and McKinley along with Myrtle Point staff.

Highway 42 Could Be Coos County Greatest Asset At Stake

The Coos County public seems divided over an east west highway plan with factions backing the old Coos Bay Wagon Road route the Coos River route via Melrose and a modern Coos Bay corridor. The State Highway Commission has begun modernization of Highway 42 from Coquille to Myrtle Point and from 99 to Camas Valley urging county unity under the Chamber to finish 42 and then pursue the Wagon Road and new routes.
