Spenny Ross exits Myrtle Point to join McEniry Furniture’s sale in North Bend. The purchase is by Henry A. Schroeder Inc. with Ross and Paul McElwain of Bay Motors as partners. Ross becomes North Bend active manager while remaining connected to Myrtle Point. Schroeder's Inc. will run the North Bend store with the Myrtle Point enterprise continuing as needed.

Thief Steals Small Amount at Myrtle Point High School

A light fingered person or persons broke into Myrtle Point High School last Wednesday evening. They scattered papers, found a few dollars in cash, and did not damage the locked safe. Paula Cook, secretary, had cash taken from her desk. Police chief William Tankersley pursues fingerprints. Two outside doors were forced open. The Bridge elementary school was broken into the same night, about $10 taken, possibly by the same burglar.

Broadbent PTO Carnival At Schoolhouse Saturday Night

Broadbent residents are invited to a big school carnival at the Broadbent schoolhouse sponsored by the PTA. Doors open at 6 30 with entertainment all evening including Bingo darts fish pond cake walk movies and carnival fun to raise funds for school gymnasium equipment. Citizens are urged to attend and participate next Saturday at 6 30.

Terrific Myrtle Point High approves pool at school

Myrtle Point Union High School District No. 2 board grants permission to build a community swimming pool at the high school using existing facilities. Showers dressing rooms and lockers will serve both the pool and regular physical education and events. Pool construction costs are funded by the Community Swimming Pool fund, with significant savings on total costs.

Announcement that the Pee-Wee baseball banquet will be held at the Myrtle Crest School auditorium Thursday at 6:30. Parents and enthusiasts invited. Southern Pacific denies discrimination against Oregon shippers

The Southern Pacific issues a white paper stating Oregon shippers receive the most cars in state history in the first eight months of the year. It notes moving more lumber than ever and 84 000 empty cars brought into Oregon from Texas with solid trainloads from the Southwest. The memorandum calls discrimination charges unjustified.

Coos Bay District Plans 1956 Timber Sale Totals

The Bureau of Land Management will sell 150 2000000 board feet of timber in 1956 for the Coos Bay district. The sale plan presented Sept 23 1955 to the district advisory board was approved as prepared by District Forester Youngblood and is pending state supervisor Virgil Heath approval. The volumes include Smith River 54400000 bd ft Loon Lake 23000000 bd ft East Fork Coquille 45300000 bd ft Middle Fork Coquille 21500000 bd ft Public Domain Curry Co 86000000 bd ft. Myrtle Point's Bobcats defeated Waldport 2 to 6 in a non conference game. The home team built a three touchdown lead in the first half before Waldport scored once. McCain returned a kickoff to the Waldport 41 and Jesse Adams added a 26 yard TD to make it 7 0 after Whitaker’s PAT.

Eastern textile firm buys Coquille plywood mill

Coquille Plywood Co sold its mill and assets to Textron Accraeat Inc of Providence for 4 million dollars. The plant includes a plywood facility, a 65 acre log pond, timber holdings, and all logs under contract. Ulett will remain general manager of the Coquille Plywood Division of Textron American with about 350 employees.
