Water Tank Explosion Damages Home in Powers

An explosion in a gravity water tank near Powers damaged the Fulton home and injured Jerry Fulton who suffered a broken arm. Mrs. Fulton and a child were uninjured. Chief George Hurst said the cause is unknown. The Fultons moved in Saturday and the tank was not connected to power. The home sits about half a mile from Powers on Suamon Creek.

Bobcats Battle Bandon 13 6 Thriller in Friday Win

Myrtle Point's improving Bobcats defeated Bandon 13 to 6 in a conference game Friday night, snapping a three year drought against the Tigers and keeping contention for sub district honors. A fumbled exchange near the goal line halted Bandon's drive in the first quarter. Continued on Page Ten.

Wayne Morse to Speak at Multiple Oregon Clubs

Senator Wayne Morse visits Coos County this week as guest at Myrtle Point Rotary Thursday noon and addresses Myrtle Point High School assembly at 145 public welcome. He also speaks at Coos Curry Electric meeting in Coquille Saturday afternoon and talks at Port Orford Chamber of Commerce Wednesday night and Bandon Port Commission event Thursday.

Unlawful to Pass School Buses While Loading or Unloading

State police urge strict enforcement of the School Bus Law as buses pull off highways to load or unload. Drivers should stop in plain view and pull off to the side after loading has finished to allow traffic to proceed. Bus drivers will report license numbers of violators to the District Attorney.

Couple Celebrates Golden Wedding in Bridge District

They marked 50 years of marriage in Oaks near Bridge with a long history. The groom began logging at 15, later farming and raising livestock, while the bride, born March 26, 1888 in Dillard Ohio, is daughter of W. W. Gage, pioneer sheriff of Coes county. They have lived seven miles south of Bridge for 48 years.

Myrtle Point Veneer Furnishes Pee-Wee Baseball Uniforms

More than 150 people gathered at Myrtle Crest school to witness Myrtle Point Veneer Co presenting about 80 uniforms to the Myrtle Point Pee-Wee Baseball organization. Othal Davenport presented the gifts to Mrs. Edward McCuskey as president of the association. George Linn served as toastmaster after a banquet honoring the occasion.
