Norma Boyd district supervisor of the Coos Forest Protective Association told Rotary noon attendees about regional operations including lookouts and firefighting. He noted 1066 acres burned this year with 18 fires incendiary in origin and credited ranches equipped with firefighting gear for delaying suppression until patrol arrival.
The parade starts at 3 00 p m Friday October 6 from 6th and Harris. The route runs down 6th to Spruce and 4th to Harris. Immediately after the parade a tricycle race will be held on Spruce from 5th to 4th and back.
Oregon Association of Realtors announces the first Oregon Realtors Institute to be held December 3 to 9, 1967 in Eugene. More than 500 attended the 29th annual membership meeting of Coos Curry Electric Co operative at Brookings Harbor High School. Ed Thornton of Brookings was reelected to the board with Charles Knox of Wedderburn and R E Doyle of Myrtle Point elected as new members. Vern Kolen of Gold Beach was elected president of the board. David R. Philpott of Bandon named vice president. Jack Dean of Cranberry was reelected secretary. A plaque honoring president Farrell T. Rankin, who died in July, was presented by Kolen for 12 years of faithful service.
Teachers of school district 41 were honored at a reception by the school board at Myrtle Crest School on September 27. The board held a brief meeting beforehand to approve release time for religious classes and to authorize transferring funds from the emergency to the transportation account to fund a relief bus for a transport shortage. Entertainment featured Lester Simons with piano accompaniment by Janice Straight. The next meetings are October 11 at the district office and October 25 at Bridge School.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce voted to close all businesses on Veterans Day November 11 and to open Christmas festivities on December 2 with Santa Claus present. A holiday turkey scramble for children is planned and United Nations Day parade plans are under Gus Metzgus. School enrollment matches last year and a school tour for American Education Week is planned. Possible installation of three bicycle racks in the downtown business district was discussed.
