Myrtle Point hosts Ban don Saturday at 2 p m for the second game of the season on their home field with a large crowd expected. Eleven players are sidelined by injuries including four regulars. The lineup is shuffled with Howard Duncan and others starting in new positions as Coquille defeated Bandon 27 to 6 last weekend.
A series of OSC extension service training meetings for Coos county recreation leaders is announced by Dorothy Bishop. Miss Zola Jensen will conduct sessions in Marshfield and Bandon with eight pm starts for floor games and later topics including leading music and skit school through March.
The Myrtle Point Union High School District No. 2 budget shows taxes for high school purposes at 1 706.07 less than last year. A $83,467 17 surplus exists after expense reductions, while $650 funds a new grandstand and a newly completed arts unit. The total budget and debt retirement total 39 30450 with receipts estimated at 14 588.87, leaving 24 705.63 to be raised by taxation. Budget committee members include P C Roper T G Sumerlin Reed John Bellow and Charles F Wooldridge.
The 3-B bowling team defeated Reedsport 2 to 1 Friday night on the Marshfield 300. Scores include Newleport-K. Coir’ Soul er 446 and B. Fulton 308, with M. 20a 334 and Dece: 4. Next Friday Myrtle Point faces the Lou Blanc team at SWarshfield as all tourney games continue on the Marshfield alleys.
The St Ann Altar Society hosts a doughnut sale Saturday October 5 at 10 oclock in front of the Safeway store. In case of rain the sale moves to the Herald Office building. Mrs Gus Metzgus and Mrs Joe Poole oversee arrangements. A cooked food and fancywork sale is planned for Saturday November 30.
Local residents report visits and travels of families and friends. George and Maas couples motored to Larsen Inlet and visited Herman Brelage while Lloyd Goone and Elton Aacen family members gathered in Bandon. Dr H H Thomas returned from a two week Arizona trip, visiting friends and the exposition. Cecil Barker and daughter Holly Jo spent a week with his parents in town. Mrs Charles Redell and son returned to Roseburg after two weeks with her parents. Henry Hermann and Mrs Tulla Parrish hosted Sunday guests. Mrs Norman Morsing dined with Mrs Fred Mantz. other Sunday callers included Mr A M Christensen and Marvene with Jesse Clinton. Mr and Mrs Stanley Fuhrman seen in San Francisco for the 1940 exposition close.
The Coos County Convention of Woman's clubs will meet at Myrtle Point Church on Wednesday October 15. Mrs Paul Breower presides as club president. chairs for the year include Mrs Mazallen Lora registration and Mrs R M Leese. A no host tea will be served at the Presbyterian church to close the convention.
The Non High Spin wet hearing is set for Oct 8 at 8 p m in the county courtroom. Taxpayers may attend as the levy rises 4,716.42 over last year. County funds apportionment totals 28,63075 for county and 9,59823 for state school funds with district shares per census. Myrtle Point hosts a teachers meeting sponsored by the Association of Childhood Education and the Intermediate Teachers Association with talks on reading, the Whole Child concept, nutrition, and remedial work.
Shoppers in Marshfield, including Ms Fred Jae and Janice Rooge, were seen shopping on Saturday. The event drew local residents to the town center with window displays and casual sales at stores along the main street.

Fred E. Moore and his wife left Tuesday for Klamath Falls where he has accepted employment on a local newspaper staff. Moore previously worked at the Herald office as a Linotype operator for several weeks moving here from Washougal Washington.
Four Eaton feed stores at Myrtle Point Marshfield Coquille and Bandon were sold to Hudson-Brewster Centennial Flouring Mills Co of Portland. Aaron Wilson remains Myrtle Point manager Eaton becomes general manager for all four stores with Herb Engy as assistant manager.
Fréd FE Moore from Washougal left for Klamath Falls taking a linetype operator post. Foreman H. J. Beer resigns. Lester Wott Ah new fills the foreman role. Harold Oak 14 and Mrs. Bargeltoe join as shop staff. Bargeltoe comes from a long San Francisco paper family.
The sixth to eighth graders compete in a noon hour volleyball tournament with team captains listed. Bob Kittens Lions beat the Lions, Trappers beat Alley Cats, and a Friday rematch is set. 43 participants overall with safety patrols elected by grade.
William Ede, a veteran rancher from the upper Shres district in Curry county, was found guilty by a Curry County circuit court jury of butchering and selling a cow owned by Ellis Dement of Myrtle Point. He faces a four year sentence and appeals to the higher court are noted.
Mrs. Donald Getz of Woodburn arrived at Mrs. Corda Laweler’s home for Mrs. Getz’s visit with her aunt Mrs. Lewellen. Leslie Barkow and David of Marshfield visited Wednesday with T. G. Sumerlin’s family. Fred Lafferty and Janice with Ethel Rodp called on Brewster Valley families en route to Roseburg. Fred Barkow and Raymond Alves visited Emma Barklow and relatives, planning weekend departures after stays with Werle Poland kin. Marjorie Johnson spent the weekend at her Beaverton home. Merle Poland, Emma Barklow, and Fred Barklow with Raymond Alves of Walnut Grove vacationed at No’s Bend with Mr. and Mrs. Al Allard. Canby resident Mrs. Jennie Schmitt visited her brother Ed Roberts and his family for a week.
