The Myrtle Point Woman's Christian Temperance Union held a Friday meeting at Mrs W W Baynes home. Mrs Epperson led devotion on Christian Citizenship. Reports of the year were read and officers for departments were named including Hattie Hatcher and E Wannamaugher. New officers include R A Epperson president and Hattie Hatcher vice president. Mrs Clinton from Corvallis spoke on her work as former WCTU president.

Willkie Greets 8000 Voters in Eugene Stop

Wendell Willkie the Republican presidential candidate spoke briefly in Eugene on a half hour stop at 1 30 Sunday praising Oregon and its people. He thanked Governor and Mrs Chas A McNary and Senator Rufus Holman for their introductions as his running mate Senator Chas L McNary was lauded. The crowd included many Roosevelt supporters who showed enthusiasm for the coast tour and royal reception.

Deers Season Victim: Youth Shot in Accidental Death

Coos county records a tragic accident during opening deer season as Walter W. Wyatt of North Bend accidentally shoots his 17 year old son Jack Wyatt near Buzzard Butte canyon. The death is ruled accidental with no other individuals implicated. Funeral services were held in North Bend.

Myrtle Point Jr. Woman's Club Opens Fall Session

Myrtle Point Junior Woman's Club meets Tuesday evening at Mrs Waldemar Gurney home for first meeting after summer break. Officers from the 1940 spring session are listed and new roles assigned. Dolores Belloni and Stanley Furman wed in Myrtle Point ceremony

The Sunday noon wedding united Dolores Belloni and Stanley Furman in a candlelit ceremony at the Belloni home. Rev. Hugh Mitchelmore officiated with Miss Gretchen Clinton at the piano, and a reception followed for the couple and families. The couple plans to reside in Coquille where Mrs. Furman works at the county courthouse.

Myrtle Point WPA Water Main Project Underway

The Myrtle Point project began last Thursday with 20 men laying water mains to replace small lines in the northwest part of town between 2nd and 4th streets and north from Ash. The work is a PWA project, to be finished in a few days, with sidewalk and curbing to start once the mains are laid.

Broadbent Grange Members Host Watermelon Feed

Broadbent Grange held a regular meeting last Thursday evening followed by a watermelon feed. Several members were absent due to illness while Miss Averel Parrish returned to school after flu. Local farmers report busy season with tractors and ensilage cutters in use.
