In Myrtle Point and the Coquille Valley, the Coquille River surged 31.52 feet in 24 hours, cresting at 43.20 feet on Thanksgiving. Flooding closed roads, damaged a logging fleet, and caused power and phone outages while residents recalled past floods and prepared for a long recovery.
Belated birthday wishes for Guido Caldarazzo the biology and coach figure in a high school story. Teachers spread word to students sparking 6 cakes and playful teasing about coercion. Also notes of heavy weather, long road trips disrupted by floods, and a Thanksgiving gathering at Myrtle Hotel with family reunions and pie. Martin Kincheloe of Myrtle Point submitted the winning bid of 120 176 665 for the Power sewer project construction. The award covers southside and north side manholes and related sewer work with consulting engineers and council members present at the bid opening. Bids were received from firms in Portland Eugene Lebanon Clackamas Creswell North Bend and Grants Pass.
In a snowy Medford A-2 final Myrtle Point and Phoenix finish 13-13 to share the state championship. The game featured All-State back Mike Consbruck and a key fumble return by Joe Robison, with Myrtle Point finishing 9-0-2 under coach Bob Petersen.
A letter of confidence signed by 16 local businesspeople was read to the District 41 School Board minutes. Presented by Dean Mason, the letter pledges support for the board and its efforts to maintain a constructive, harmonious school system and better educate students.

The Myrtle Point chamber of commerce will give coupon with every purchase from December 1 to 23. On December 23 prizes of 75, 50, and 35 dollars will be awarded at the Hiland Theatre after a Lions Club party. Coupons admit movie attendees with 10 cents per coupon, adults needing 7, students 5, and kiddies 2.5 or 5 for two tots. free theater movie follows.
A Stop and Shop event offers a $400 jackpot with four $100 prizes. Winners must be present in a participating merchant’s store at 2 p.m. to claim. Participants only need to register with a participating merchant and be present at the announcement.
The Spruce project faces a spring start. Nichole reports about half of property owners responded with voters split between proceeding with the IRS improvement and dropping it. After the Bothwick period failed, the council will ask Spruce residents again if the project should continue, with a Monday target for sufficient replies and a decision soon after.
Foster Thompson of Gaylord, a beef rancher and big game trophy collector, has learned his article titled Budget Hunt In British Columbia will be published in the January issue of Alaska Sportsman. The piece will feature several photographs from his trip.
