The District 41 School Board met Tuesday night to discuss future expansion. Superintendent Armstrong recommended hiring an architect for a cost study while some members argued it is premature. The board aimed to decide on a junior high plan and whether Myrtle Crest could host a junior high or elementary building project, with cost comparisons and efficiency considerations.
The Powers School Board voted to require girls to wear skirts or dresses and forbid pedal pushers or similar garb, rejecting a petition by about 50 parents. The board will study the issue further before a final decision and also discussed setting aside land for possible sale of two old gymnasiums to the city for city hall fire hall and library buildings.
Area residents rejected a city backed street upgrade after more than 70 percent of property owners opposed the Bothwick project citing high costs and poor street bases. Leaders blamed price, with objections centered on base and substandard materials, prompting an automatic project kill and a vote to survey residents on Spruce and Maple alternatives.
A license examiner will be on duty in Myrtle Point at the City Mall on Wednesday November 29 1961 from 9 00 a m to 4 00 p m. The visit is announced by the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles.
A drawing will occur on Desember day with Seleneik and Rotleoets Men and Shep. Four names will be called for a $400 prize. Unregistered Step and Shep merchants are urged to sign up and be present at 2 p.m. when memes are announced in a member merchant store.
Myrtle Point Mayor proclaims Friday November 4 1961 a city holiday to allow attendance at the Class A-2 state playoff in Medford. A rally at the Medford Hotel follows the game with plans for a bus trip costing 96 90 per person and provisions for postgame festivities.
