Christmas lights went on for a grand opening weekend in Myrtle Point with events planned Friday and Saturday November 19 and 20. Merchants will sponsor a Hiland Theatre show on December 21 with ticket giveaways and prizes of 86, 60 and 78 dollars.

Swastikas Deface Myrtle Point Streets Over Weekend

Swastikas were painted on Myrtle Point streets and a service station area after 1 30 p m Sunday as the city mourned the President. A barber shop found the vandalism at 2 a m with 144 feet of swastikas painted on the blacktop parking lot and nearby buildings.

Two 18-year-olds unleash three day crime spree on four schools

Police describe two youths weighing 75 to 100 pounds who ransacked four schools in three cities and a rural area over a three day binge from Friday to Sunday. They smashed gym doors at Myrtle Crest and sprayed white paint while carrying guns strapped at their sides. One boy admits breaking glass with his fist and was found with a gash on his knuckles. The incident is being treated as state and city offense.

Myrtle Point High School gets decoration grant

The Searr Roebuck Foundation presents Myrtle Point high school classes and instructor Mrs Gloria Evernden with 56 dollars to decorate the home living area. Brian Evernden said a separate check for 66 dollars will be used by the classes to make draperies upholster a havaneo and swing rocker refinishing a coffee table and making a lamp shade.

Roseburg Man Killed In Early Friday Auto Crash

A one vehicle crash on Highway 4 between Myrtle Point and Dridge killed Roseburg resident Gordon Delbert Larson 47. His pickup plunged into the Middle Fork of the Coquille River around 1 57 am and was found by David Waterman and Parrish near 5 am. State Police were notified.
